While I personally prefer reading novels in print, you can't deny how convenient it is to store all your books on a digital format and read them off a device.
Assuming you own both a smartphone and a tablet, what would you prefer to read on, and why?
Personally, I can't decide. I like reading on my phone because I always have it. Whenever I want to read a chapter of something, I can just pull the needed app and read away. But I do like the screen size of a tablet...
The convenience of having books stored digitally is one that I'll gladly forego. There is a sort of satisfaction that I can't explain of seeing the collection of printed books you have over the years, be it neatly stored on a bookshelf or stacked on the floor.
But if I had to choose between a smartphone or tablet, I would actually choose the smartphone. I like my digital items to be conveniently accessed and that includes everything stored into one device. Not to mention that it will be less of a hassle to just bring a smartphone if I felt like reading a classic on a subway instead of holding on to a tablet as well.

This, absolutely. That's how I am with video games, and I'm really starting to get frustrated with the industry moving ahead with digital copies.
I've actually started printing out DVD covers for my Steam games and putting them into blank DVDs. The struggle is real.
Much like yourself, I prefer printed books, but getting books in digital format is just so much easier and cheaper, as well as of course more portable. I do not have a smartphone, but I have a nook, and I love it. Even if I did have a smartphone though, I would still prefer to read on my nook. The reasoning is really quite simple, it's bigger. It's not annoying to read. Sure I would have a phone on me more often, but if I intend to read when I go somewhere, I'll bring my nook. It fits into my jacket pocket and I'm typically prepared, having it most of the times that I end up wanting to read (and I even bring it some times that I don't end up reading).
Smartphone. So much more portable, and a lot of the time with a higher PPI than a tablet in the same price range.
Not to mention if I'm on the bus reading my smartphone I can easily shove it into my pocket and walk off, as opposed to shoving my tablet somewhere or cradling it to my chest like a precious parcel.
As many people have said, I greatly prefer reading books in print. Reading them electronically doesn't give me the same "thrill" as reading them physically.
But, if I had to choose, I would say my smartphone, simply because I have it with me the majority of the time, it's portable, and easier to read while lying in bed, which is where I do most of my reading.

There's nothing like the feel of the pages of a book. Especially when I've finished a great book in one setting and close it. On OT though, a tablet is much easier to read manga on, and it feels more like a "book."

I prefer an actual book, but I'd prefer a tablet over a smartphone. Tablet feels more like a book because of how big it is, imo. Smartphones are too small, they strain my eyes. I tried reading on my iPhone and that didn't work out well.

What do you think?
However, if one was forced to chooſe... tablet.
I couldn't agree more, but if you were forced to choose for whatever reason.
Print books are superior in every way in my opinion.

I really dislike e-ink displays. They flash like monsters.
