So this is kind of like a rant but also like how I have felt recently about how people have acted.
Well as you know in the old times people would actually care about each other but as time has moved on we are isolated to pretty much the people in our school, living around us, or people we know at work. I have noticed that the thing is people care more about their own appearance. (For instance women wear makeup, someone makes a mistake and no one helps them up, and people who aren't like that try to act different from themselves and act differently on purpose. This has gotten me very confused because I grew up in a situation where people actually cared but now I have learned how real life has gotten.
Agreed. Society has slowly digressed downhill from what I have seen, even more in our day of modern technology. It really is unfortunate. But, in the corners of the world, there are those who are genuinely kind people, and I hope you can find them as well like you did in the past OP. Good luck

Really, the world is better now than it has ever been. Far less violence, less hunger, more wealth, longer lives, better technology... People have always obsessed about appearance (the ancient Greeks sure as hell did). And what's so bad about women wearing make-up? If it makes them feel prettier, then power to them. I don't understand where you're getting any of this from. There is plenty of good in the world now and much less bad than historically.
Fundamental flaws in society such as peer pressure have been around for a long time and probably wont be going away in long time.
Just because you can only observe these problems from the 1st person in your generation (since you've only been alive since your generation) doesn't mean that it started with your said generation.
"Culture" has greatly improved over the years. Politics have been targeting getting along as a society rather than the betterment of a single empire. We, as a race, have become more excepting, less people are dying, technology is advancing and in general life is improving.
Perhaps I'm a bit paranoid, cynical, or just generally mistrusting, but I highly doubt you're even old enough to have experienced these "old times" you speak of.

Yeah, I too wish we could go back to when women were treated like dirt, blacks were second-class citizens, and horrible world-spanning wars were going on. People got along and were much nicer to each back then.
But seriously though, people have been saying similar things for hundreds of years. I'd hardly consider the past to be inherently better than today.

I always love to use this quote in this type of debate:
“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”
Aristophanes' "The Clouds", 423 BC.
People have been going on about this for millennia it seems.
Well, you are partly correct, but not wording it with the right terms, there is folk culture, which is small, ethnic, and you refer to as the 'caring' because they all know each other. Then there is popular culture (pop culture) which is rapidly growing through technology and the youth which is a big chunk of the population. Everyone is so caught up and affected by pop culture to take part in folk culture, mainly because technology like social media and the like. That's as far as I will go because if I go farther, its my opinion and not actual proven and set in stone terms.
My explanation is, everyone is too caught up in technology (whatever it may be at the time, newspaper, books or the internet) and the more interactive the technology is, the more they will partake in pop culture. The technology has grown enough to where it is more interactive (for some) than their surroundings, the folk culture.

The only real problem I have with society is that people expect you to act a certain way. And you are socially screwed if you don't. Admittedly it's always been like that but still, it's annoying for the people who don't act socially normal (like me). Screw social norm.
I agree entirely.
I can't stand how society wants you to act in certain ways and do certain things...
Which is why I've made it my personal mission to A: ignore society's random crap, and B: introduce new ideas into this already-screwed up society.
When compared to society, I am definitely not part of "The Norm"..XD
(@Taupo) I'd have to disagree on that. I don't think people deserve respect because of their age. Age, title, rank, what have you, all mean nothing to me.
A lot has changed in the past 100 years, and things will continue to change. Nothing we can do about it, as there are 7 billion people living on a single planet. It was bound to happen at our reproduction rate. Hopefully things will get better if/when we become a spacefaring race.

Agreed, but most people aren't mean, and they care. Back in the day, people got killed by electrocuting chairs, and back back in the day, they killed people for going infront of a roman car. Its actually growing a bit in my opinion, FOR certain people, not for all.
It's always funny when someone that hasn't been around before 1995 thinks they're qualified to make objective observations about how culture has evolved.

I'd push it back to the eighties, some might say even further.
