Mark himself said it would be for the better so people would go outside and make real friends.
If were deleted there would an uproar but shortly afterwards people would just go some different social site. Basically a larger scale version of the chat thread deletion.

Definitely agree on this one. I don't even have Facebook, so I wouldn't care, but some people need to get off their addiction.
I think it would be more about the business aspect if facebook went down. Look at how many businesses (and Im referring to small business) use facebook to generate more customers.
It's a great tool for advertising and interacting with customers and I think that would be the saddest thing if Facebook were removed. Walmarts already made it hard enough for small business so they need all the help they can get.
After a few days many people would just be lost and confused on what to do. Going outside? Impossible thought. After I would say, day 5, people would just find another site they can waste their time pretending to be friends with other people around the world in countries they didn't even know existed.
That would be a great day for society. It would force people to "hang out" in real life and learn about each other through conversation, not profile pages.
People panic.
People find the next biggest Facebook alternative and settle with it.
Businesses also join and utilize said alternative.
Everything is back to normal.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Some people are so addicted that when it's deleted, they'll just use something similar to it.
Something else would take its place. Kinda like when MySpace was popular, and then Facebook took over.

I like to blog about stuff - currently Tracfone cell phones, where I cover lots of info, even how you can use a Tracfone Promo Code to get free minute for your prepaid cell phone.
Then everyone would probably move to a different social network until a new and "improved" one is created.
They'll probably move to something old like MySpace,AOL,Yahoo Messenger (I just looked at my icons and apparently there it was, since I'm using my mom's computer even though she don't use Yahoo Messenger anymore.)
What do you think would happen?
Wait for time

Me? unaffected.
I personally would be happy if FaceBook was deleted.
My reaction: "Oh well..." I only go on it about once a week anyway.
That being said I'd laugh and laugh at whatever news story or if I went on Facebook and saw that they shut it down.

Riots
People who never got the appeal of Facebook being confused as to whats happening.
that's an excellent solution.
After a week or so, they'll calm down and just move on to another similar site.
"THIS IS AN OUTRAGE I'M GOING TO BURN AND SMASH AND KILL AND PROTEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
5% of all teenagers:
"I'd never thought I see the day, now lets grab some popcorn and watch the fireworks."
Plus, it would mean that lots of teenagers don't get on facebook through their phones during class time such as when doing a test.
Teacher: "What is the answer to Q.7 Eliza?"
Eliza: "Duckface".
