Today i ate a banana, and before eating it I noticed that it had green spots around the top of it.
I realize that it may just have been ripening, and that it wasn't done yet, however the banana seemed ripe, since it had some brown spots on the lower part and the whole thing except the brown and green spots was yellow.
It was only the peel though. The banana itself was fine, other than the top of it being mushy.
I had bought 3 bananas and the other 2 that i haven't eaten yet also have green spots around the top, even though they seem ripe.
Is there something wrong with the banana, like a disease, infection or even worms/parasites (I don't think that's the case, considering the banana tasted fine), or is the top side simply not done ripening? I would expect that the top would ripen before the bottom would, though.
Is there a possibility that something is wrong with the bananas, or am i just being paranoid?
Oh God, you ate a GREEN SPOTTED BANANA???? YOU FOOL, YOU'VE DOOMED US ALL! Don't you know green spots on bananas mean H7N11 Banana Flu infection?? Any second now a SWAT team is going to burst through your window with tear gas in full biohazard suits and drug your unconscious body away to be locked PERMANENTLY in quarantine where you can't get us all killed with your horrible banana virus. Remember Atlantis? Yeah, that was the Banana Flu. Remember Black Death in Medieval Europe? Yep, Banana Flu again. Spanish Flu? Just another name for Banana Flu. Eating green spotted bananas have lead to the death of hundreds of millions of people.
And you just reintroduced the virus into the human species.
There is a site, banana.org, of which a guy asks the same thing of you. One guy answer was the following:
There's nothing wrong with those bananas. They were just "forced ripened" with carbide or ethylene gas. The outside may look ripe, but the inside may need a little more time to ripen. When the green spots/steaks turn yellow, then they will probably be truly ripe. Just my opinion.
So I believe it's nothing too big to worry about. If you feel bad or something, go to a doctor. But only if you feel something. It's low likely you'll get Bananthrax.
EDIT: Here's a new thing I found.
It seems like Mosaic Virus, even if infection of fruits usually appears in different ways, like deformation and black pulp...
Mosaic Virus:
Mosaic viruses are plantviruses that cause the leaves to have a speckled appearance. Mosaic virus is not a taxon.

I eat my bananas by extending my long tongue and swallowing it whole.
