I wouldn't be surprised if some of you people killed someone while driving at the speeds you claim.
If you hit an human being or an animal of the same size at any speed over 25 MPH, you would know.
I think the stupidest thing I have ever done was an impromptu drag race on a county back-road at 4 AM. My friend who lived in the mountains wanted to do a 4:30 AM McDonald's run. I lived 20 minutes away, but I wanted to shave time, so I averaged 15 MPH over the limit. On a 55 zone, some Dodge Viper was going 40. When it was legal, I decided to pass him. He speeds up. I didn't want to concede the maneuver, so we were both going 95 MPH, but I was in the wrong side of the road. It was a straight section of road, but we passed several intersections (that we had the right-of-way on), but each intersection technically had a double-yellow.
^ That's the road I did that on. Basically, I was on the left lane from there on street view all the way to Hockinson. I looked at my speedometer creeping to 100, and I finally decided to slow down and get behind him. He also slowed down, so I practically had to stop to get back behind him.
How much is yours? Is your record clean? I had good grades in high school, and I "watched" State Farm's little DVD on safe driving (that I never watched).
God, like $800/mo

The Commies count their quarters and the ArtSci wish they could, the Engs have the longest pole and slam it home for good, so big, so hard, so tall, it reaches all the way to heaven, so shut your hole, we climbed the pole, we're sci 1 ing 7!!!
I was on the I 95 southbound to Miami, And the limit was 75 i think and i was going 90 MPH passing all the slowbies with my Mitsubishi eclipse spyder.
Don't tell my insurance company. O_o
We have the same car minus the Spyder, so I know your car goes faster than that. I've driven mine until the governor kicks in, which was somewhere around ~110 or 115 mph, with the speed limit at 65.

My girlfriend has an 03 Eclipse and it can certainly go that fast

It mostly depends on how long you've been driving, your driving record, any extra courses you've taken, and the age of your car and what kinds of coverage you have.
My 2009 is $86/mo with full coverage and my 2007 is $67/mo with full coverage. For comparison, my girlfriend's 2003 is $42/mo without comprehensive/collision. We're both in our mid-20s with clean records.
Speedometers on bikes aren't accurate at all. I can believe up to 45 MPH.
I just read up on this real quick and typical bicycle speeds are 10-20mph. On a racing bike, a "reasonably fit" rider can hit 30mph for short periods on flat ground. The speed record for an upright bicycle is 51.29mph set in 1986 at the International Human Powered Speed Championships in Vancouver (Source). So unless Pwnguin is a world-class athlete with a modified racing bike, he wasn't going 59mph.
I could go to the PIR [Portland International Raceway] and race if I wanted to. I don't really have a good enough car for that at the moment. Laguna Seca and Sears Point also allows public racing, I believe.
Jealous. I live in New Hampshire which is many (8+) hours away from any non-oval paved race courses. I've done racing twice before, and the first time rented a Lamborghini Gallardo to do autocross and borrowed a 2007 Ford Fusion former NASCAR to drive around NHMS. I'm taking rally racing school this summer though

Once you turn 25, you can rent a car through most rental companies. I believe 25 is the magic age that insurance rates drop.

What about going downhill? I definitely don't believe 59 MPH for some spammer on the Minecraft Forums, but I'm sure the record is higher if it accounts for slopes. There's a steep hill near my house in Seattle.

Yeah, when I'm at my dad's in the Portland Area, I'm only 15 minutes away from PIR. When I'm at my mom's, I'm about an hour away from Laguna Seca, and 2 hours away from Sears Point. My dad used to do casual/amateur racing at Sears Point. I'm not sure if Laguna Seca lets you do that.
Contrary to popular belief, NASCAR is actually much harder than just turning left around an oval. I wouldn't mind trying it out sometime. Rally racing sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't have a car that's built for that. One of my roommates is really obsessed with Subarus, so it's pretty obvious what type of racing he would enjoy.

I think it dropped for me but not by much. You can rent cars younger but it costs a bit extra. A couple years ago when I was 23 I was able to rent a car in Tennessee for 3 or 4 days

It sure is. You go much faster when you're right up against the back side of someone else. And the grip those racing slick tires have on the corners is unreal. If I wasn't strapped down with a 5-point harness, I surely would've slid out of the seat on every corner! As for Rally Racing, if you go to a rally school, it's more than likely they'll provide the cars. I'm going to Team O'Neil who provides rally-prepped FWD Ford Fiestas for the base-level courses and for more advanced courses they have rally-prepped RWD BMWs, AWD Audis and AWD Subaru Imprezas.

It's because insurance rates don't drop until you're 25, so the rental company has to pay an additional insurance fee. That's my guess, at least.
I have friends who are in the military who can rent cars at the 25+ rates.

Yeah, grip is the biggest thing and trying to avoid body contact with other cars. Drafting is really true for any motor-racing sport, but I guess it's more common in NASCAR.
I didn't think a Ford Fiesta was a good rally-racing car. They're still sort of rare in the U.S. (at least the west coast). I only really heard about it through Top Gear.

I haven't seen many in the wild myself (northeast coast), but I'm sure they're good enough for intro stuff. Most people in the US are familiar with driving front-wheel-drive so they ease into the more advanced RWD and AWD systems. The Fiestas have roll cages and manual transmissions and probably were just a cheap reliable car for this sort of work.

what was the speed limit?

The speed limit is c, because the speed of light is the upper limit for the speeds of objects with positive mass.

c
can't remember to have seen any c zones around, highest I've seen is 130 km/h
I didn't want to be arrested though.
Wow, you were going 300,000,000x the speed limit?
That's pretty badass.
