Seriously. I'd like to know. Why is it that when someone is physically or emotionally hurt, the immediate reaction is to ask such a stupid question? Why? I've slipped and put a deep cut all down the sole of my foot. It hurts like hell, it's even more agonizing to look at, and I'm going to get an infection if nothing is done about it. OF COURSE I'M NOT OKAY.
Well when I was a kid my mom would always say "rub it" when I hurt my arm, or hit my head (which happened alot). It is just there way of giving sympathy when there is really nothing to do about it. It's not like they could just heal your leg, they may have felt like there was nothing they could do ( which they couldn't ). It is a dumb question makes you wonder what the first person to have that said to him said. If I never heard that before and someone said "are you okay" I would have punched them in the face.
Anyways, it really shows that people care about you. And they didn't know how to react when whatever made your foot get injured. When someone asks "Are you ok?", thats the same as saying "Should I call the hospital?" or "Do we need to see a doctor?".
I think it's a way to show that they care. I mean, there isn't really any other way for them to react apart from that, and asking that question can be an indicator of the severity of a situation. If someone were to reply "yeah I'm alright" then you can proceed to assume it's not too bad. If not, you'd then think "well this is really bad he needs immediate attention (in whatever context)"
But rather than having to tell them that you're okay...
Why not just "oh sh*t, let me help you", so that if the person "injured" does not actually require assistance, they can simply say so? Why do we not do that?
Really, why do people ask this question?
It's really that simple.
Every single time someone falls on the skating floor.....
