I have no role in life. Now, I may only be fourteen and some may argue that school is what builds me up to my future, but I have a very different view. I do not want to wake up every morning just to work for food that will give me energy to work again the next day. That is not a life. That is a machine. I feel like my life (at the moment) has no purpose other than to serve others. I clean and cook for my family and anytime I have a break I'm glued to my computer playing Minecraft or Smite. Though these games are... incredible, to say the least, I do not REALLY enjoy them. They simply help me pass the time until I must face the world's problems once again. Now, I'm not saying that I am not happy; my friends and family make my life worth living. If I had complete freedom to do whatever I wanted I would not sit on my computer all day. I would travel, create, play soccer, physically speak to people who I otherwise would only hear their voice over Skype. Anyways, back to your question. Yes, I have found the one thing that makes me truly happy, it's not video games or money, but the most amazing girl in the world. I will live this annoyingly difficult life for her. But also no, I'm not happy with the choices I've made in my past. I've changed a lot throughout my life, but some of the things I did in the past still harm me today. That being said, if I had to go through all the in my past to be in my current position, I wouldn't change a thing. My name is Joshua Caleb Long, and though this name does not define me, it is me. I hope this was what you were looking for.
I haven't found a role, though I don't see why someone needs a lifetime long obligation to live a full life. As long as you have people with whom you have a mutually loving relationship, then you have as full a life as you need.
I just had my first kid on 1-30-2013. My role in life is to now take care of her. I have been dating the same woman for almost 3 years now. She has 2 other kids that are not mine. My role is to take care of my family. The things I do in life like play video games and taking care of my family I enjoy very much. I am very happy with my life. I've worked hard to achieve the things I have. I work and pay my bills, though I don't typically enjoy working, I know that in my current situation that I must work to keep what I have. No I am not a machine because I work a job. Aelomiad seems to think so, but at 14, I'm pretty sure they don't work. Nor have any major responsibilities in life at the moment.
I have been to college, served 8 years in the U.S. Army, fought in a war, have been to numerous amounts of countries, and now I am raising a family. My role in life is a great one. I have done many things with my life and will continue to do so.
To Schmoople - You don't have to have any obligations in life, but the ones you set for yourself.
Role? Well, I want to be an astronomer, or a professor of ancient history (like indiana jones without the adventures). I guess if things go as they go, I'll be whatever i decide.
I don't see life defined by roles, to me our basic survival is our only role. Everything else like professions are just made up off human wants. But in terms of how i want my life to go, as long as i'm able to simply enjoy it and live without worry, i'll go wherever. But as far as a profession, i'm not sure.
I really don't like the idea of a "role"" in life. Most people live their lives, work, then die, and that was their role. I just hope one day I become a little more than that.
I'm just another guy trying to get their way through life with happiness. Whatever happens, happens. Yeah sure, I'd like good things to happen but there's no guarantee and as long as I have the gift of life I'll use it to keep myself as happy as I can.
I mean, do you know who you are?
As in, have you cemented the understanding of your role in life?
And have you truely found what makes you, as a human being, happy in the life that you've chosen?

My role(goal?) is to rock this culture.
If you were looking for any real meaning in that, I'm afraid you will be disappointed
