They keep telling that they WILL NOT switch to cable since they have everything set up with att. (btw att blows too.) My family pays $20 bucks a month for this crap too. I would like to goto fiber optic but once again they wont switch. i was wondering if this is a good DSL option to switch to (called MAX INTERNET) - http://www.att.com/u...requestid=11004. What could i say to them that might change their minds?

How fast is it? Mine is 6megs download and 1meg upload and it works perfectly fine. Try to make a compromise. If your parents do not want to get cable internet try to find a non-cable internet source that is in their budget and suits your needs.

Well, its 3 down and 0.31 up. I always want to do stuff on youtube but i cant bcuz of the upload.
Sit them down at the table and give them a strong look in the eye.
Say, "Mom, dad, we need to talk."
They'll start looking worried.
"I've seen what's been going on on the internet. It's becoming a problem."
Your dad will probably get a nervous look in his eye and start sweating. In his mind, you've found his secret, whatever it may be.
"This isn't right. It's not in the best interest of the family. It's breaking us apart."
He'll snap under the pressure. and start making false claims with his finger pointed at your face. He'll admit to everything.
Fast forward a couple hours, and after lots of shouting, there'll probably be some vases thrown and broken furniture, and your house may very well be on fire at this point.
Or you can just prove to them that there are better service providers that only come with a bit more cost. Your choice.
You Americans and your 'crappy' internet... *sighs*
This is my connection speed. Can't be upgraded at all, the line connection is too poor. We are paying for 20Mb/s down & 7Mb/s up - We get no where near that
Changing ISP's is not a smooth thing so that might be a reason for them to not change. Another reason might be that they have a bound contract that they have to use their service for XYZ months/years before they can change.
Ooor they don't think it's worth it like my mother did.
I just got 50mbps/10mbps from Comcast for $60/mo and it is wonderful.
Around where I live, the cheapest Comcast is 6mbps for $50 and the best is 105mbps for $115. The cheapest I could find with any provider where I live is Fairpoint 768kbps/128kbps for $21 which is worse than what you already have.
Op, do you have any classes at school that require a decent internet connection?

~i dont run away from you....i walk slowly and it kills me that you dont care enough to stop me......You think this is truly the end hero NAH it has only just begun!
Here's the benefit of living on your own as a responsible adult.
If you're unhappy with the services that your parents are willing to pay for... well, that's just part of living in someone else's house and getting access to all the free services they are willing to share with you. If you're unhappy with it and want something better, then your best bet is to go out and buy something better yourself. =P

The best you can do is give them the facts.
Cost per month, DL/UP, cap and additional costs.
