My parents were born in Poland, which is in Europe, under the Baltic Sea.
As you can already tell by my title, my parents yell constantly, but use it as a way to talk. Now, I've gone used to this, but it always confused me.
If you need to learn more about my parents, my mom is a nurse, and works only on nights, and sometimes sleeps during the day, but she has to cook, and do the laundry(cause everyone else is lazy) and shop for groceries and food and clothing and what not. My dad, works from the morning to a bit later in the afternoon, and is a bit strict. It isn't terrible, as most of the time I don't even listen and he doesn't do anything, but some times its bad, and he'll pull his belt out and and threaten me to do something. He works at some car parts thing. I'm not entirely sure, but if I ask, he'll be ashamed he never went to college, blah blah. My dad also wastes money on beer a lot, which my mom hates.
Now, I love both my parents, very much so, despite the fact they annoy me so damn much at times, its just that I never understand why, when all is good, they talk SO LOUD and are as if they're about to get a divorce.
At times, they talk normally, and we're like a typical European family trying to be American, like my dad saying,"Hi sport!" You know, that nonsense.
All in all, I'm just asking if anyone knows why this happens, or if they experience the same thing.
My mom just talks really loud in public places, "mom.. shh, you're talking to loud again."
My dad is a really chill dude, doesn't raise his voice and doesn't get angry that much.
My mom talks loud a lot in public places as well, but only if something is priced too high or her coupons expired, or if she thinks the management is terrible.
You're lucky that your dad is so cool. Mine rarely gets not mad.
Because maybe it's cultural? I dunno. Sometimes my parents yell, but that's to whip my ass into action. They're the deciders. I have to listen to them and follow what they say.

Maybe they are being loud because they are trying to become American? Like how Superman pretends to be stupid because that's what he saw when he came to earth.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The Commies count their quarters and the ArtSci wish they could, the Engs have the longest pole and slam it home for good, so big, so hard, so tall, it reaches all the way to heaven, so shut your hole, we climbed the pole, we're sci 1 ing 7!!!

For me, it's the opposite. My parents will ask me a question, and I'll answer. Then my mom will say "Don't yell at me, or I swear to God, I'll [threaten something I own, usually my computer]."
Maybe your parents feel they need to be loud since you have admitted that you sometimes don't listen. At least in America, if people get loud over expired coupons or "higher prices", usually they get what they want...
