I understand and speak Norwegian, English and Swedish fluently. I can read Danish, aswell, plus some French. I know a little Dutch and German too, but not nearly enough.
I should know some Finnish, as I'm technically 1/4 Finnish, but unfortunately I haven't bothered learning anything yet. I have enough to do as it is.
Edit: I can kinda read Faroese, too, but some words are like a mystery to me. It's almost like Norwegian, but the dialect is heavily changed along with several words. That's why I can somewhat easily understand some phrases, but other sentences are impossible for me to read.
Well I'm not an English native. In order, Hungarian, Romanian, German, English, French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese. Languages I can still speak: English, Romanian, Hungarian, Chinese. Languages I kind of know: French, Spanish, German.
And that's pretty much it. Well, aside from Bad English, Sarcasm, Lolspeak, and Engrish.
English and Lao are my primary languages, and I've taken 3 years of Latin, and going into my fourth, I wouldn't be able to hold out a conversation in Latin, but I could lecture you about Julius Caesar as well as the First Triumvirate xD.
English, obviously, is my main language. I know basic Spanish, and a very little amount of Japanese. I'm taking Latin for highschool, so, after that I plan on learning at least usable Japanese.
I'm trying to learn how to speak Russian, I don't know why but the language just fascinates me. I feel like I should learn Spanish since I live in America and its the second language
As useful as Spanish is, it is a mundane language I find. It doesn't have that same romantic flare that French has. Even then though, the Germanic and Slavic language have that glorious grit and hardness to them.
,but Eastern ish European languages like German and Russian or Swedish just sound badass. Do you guys or gals on the forums know any other languages besides your home countries? Cause I don't!
Being a speaker of German, at least to some degree, I can vouch for it being bad-ass.
And in a limited way, I can speak Arabic. Though, that's more or less only has far as my Marhabbahs and Masallamas and Inshallahs. With basima and the like thrown in from the odd bit of Arabic calligraphy I do (I consider it practice in letter identification and writing it out).

So I can be both suave and sexy, yet manly and a warrior.
I knew I picked a good choice of languages.
Although French soldiers yelling sounds a lot like they're either really pissed off or panicky.
My first language is English, but I know a pretty decent amount of Spanish thanks to growing up with my Spanish-speaking grandma for a few years and going to Costa Rica.

French is the manliest of the Romance languages. Though, manly only in that really fancy way. Like, you could see there spouting the rules of honor, or some kind of short-hand descriptive name and sound like some Three Musketeer, honor-bound bad-ass. Much more so than Spanish.
I know English (dur), and I'm learning Spanish. Spanish grammar is really easy; for instance, it has only three verb endings, and those endings have (mostly) consistent conjugation patterns. English, on the other hand, would be torture to a foreigner, due to its arcane pronunciation and grammar rules. That means 1) using English as the global language would be stupid and 2) one should not be so harsh of foreigners who make mistakes on the forums.
I also know how to speak some Mandarin Chinese at home. Writing is a different story, for obvious reasons.
Each language carries its own connotations. Spanish, in my mind, equates to purple sombreros and fiestas and basically Mexican culture. French, in my mind, is more fancier (probably due to the greater prominence of French French-speakers). German is just badass.

Apparently Spanish is looked down upon, I feel, because of the quote on quote "dirty illegal Mexicans" (no, I'm not racist, but I've heard that phrase before) around here.
I also know how to swear in Armenian, but it doesn't sound offensive. Really just funny as hell.
Other than the obvious(English), I know how to speak Mandarin Chinese and A bit of Japanese (learning it at the moment).
I do understand a bit of Malay, Tamil and some Chinese Dialects (e.g. hokkien, Cantonese) but not actually speak them.
I should learn them at some point.

My disinterest in Spanish isn't so much the Mexicans. I just find it to a bland, unromantic or not-at-all powerful language.
Aaron, have you ever heard Spanish people (like, from Spain) speak Spanish? It' sounds pretty nice. Better than French in my opinion, but then again I'm a bit of a Spaniard myself.
I know how to speak english obviously, I took 1 year of german in high school didn't work out well, the last three years of high school I took american sign language. So I guess you could say I am a good speaker in american sign language. But each country has their own sign language not just universal.
I want to learn Russian, German, Latin, Japanese, Chinese, and French I just adore those languages!
