hey everyone, so I was chatting with a friend of mine (A former marine, served 2 tours.) and I brought up that i'd like to be in the armed forces/FBI someday. Then I was told they wouldn't accept me due to my OCD? Does the armed forces/FBI really not accept someone due to a mental condition such as OCD? :c
I tried google, but it didn't help much. Soo yeah. =x
So what is your compulsion? Or is it a phobia and not OCD?
Its germs and keeping things clean. Same thing I have and with a few months of therapy it got MUCH better.
I'm not sure they would let him in the military though.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm back from my eternal slumber of 2 or 3 months. A long-ass time.
Oh boy, visual basic. I can barely contain my excitement.Not.

For the armed forces you will be kicked out for it, unless you can hide it VERY well but they will force your ocd to come out during reception/basic. I can honestly say this due to experience and a friend having to get EPTS out of basic when I was in due to his OCD and you will be treated like the lowest piece of **** when you get discharged, don't bother and save yourself a few months of being put in a holding bay, treated like ****, and being treated like scum.
Yeah thats correct. I need to be clean 24/7, I usually take 3-4 showers a day, a roll, maybe 2 of paper towels a day, wipe down chairs, keyboard, mouse, anything I touch I wipe down basically. It kinda makes sense that they wouldnt let me into the armed forces, but FBI I would think would let me in, not sure though. I'm just a kid.
@Pretzelguy1 I rcently started therapy and it's helped a bit. Any tips I could get from ya? ^.^
So, all in all, If joining the armed forces was my life dream, Im screwed? :x

read my above comment, not sure if you saw that I posted. Also feel free to inbox me any personal questions about the process and i will gladly answer them for you.
My bad DarwinLogic, I didn't see you posted that xP and If I have any questions I will PM you, thanks!
Like I said, had a first hand experience with an OCD case during Basic. So i can let you know what will happen if they find out/how hard it is to hide, etc etc...
I know it can be really difficult to hide, as ive been attempting to hide it frrom a few people for a while now.
if you think it's hard now, wait until you get to basic. You have less rights than a prisoner, really. Being clean? nope it wont happen. You don't even get time to wipe your ass. Everyone has **** stains on their drawers because you don't have time to even wipe your own ass, there is 100 more things I can list but that's pretty much a summary of how it is.

...I assume its not like that in the FBI. >o>
Goodness, I really hope I can get myself under cnotrol before I sign up, if I sign up. Who knows, I may or may not change my mind.

If and when you have to expose yourself to germs and do something you are uncomfortable with weather it is not cleaning something or not washing your hands, getting it over with and doing it really helps you get over it.
Exposure therapy = super not fun but super effective
Oh also meds help A LOT. They make the exposure therapy easier.

Okay, I'll attempt it... *really hopes this will help* ty!
My friend's brother is in the army and they said you have to be both physically and mentally fit to be able to join. So if you don't have perfect vision or something then you won't get accepted etc.

eh the vision thing is wrong, but yes during MEPS they inspect EVERY bit of you
examples
Vision (color blind or not), blood, background, med records, long questioning, **** tests, strip you naked in a room full of guys (or well to your underwear) and make you walk on your knees, back of heels, drop on your knees to see if anything happens, test your spine, BP, everything...it takes ALL day at MEPS.

Venit, quessit, induravit.
Basically I'm scared of germs
Severity depends on wheater or not I take my medicene.
It can be treated but, the treatment doesn't always work.

They help you with the exposure therapy. I took them for 6 months tops, they helped a lot.
