It is when you are in a lucid dream, but you are able to leave your body during the time you dream are able to float around like a ghost and watch yourself sleep, and are able to travel anywhere you want to go. When you are about to wake up, you are pulled back into your body and you wake up usually with muscle spasms while your mind recovers. Warning, Astral Projection is very dangerous, you may never wake up will be stuck in what is called "limbo" if your body and mind think that you are indeed awake. You will also be stuck in Limbo if you go past the 4th layer of Inception.

If you are not playing the game, then you are letting the game play you.

Interesting. I never knew dreaming could be so dangerous. I'll put that in the OP.
My dad was driving me to my Grandma's house, and then I thought, "I'm dreaming", and the dream just stopped. I thought of things, but I couldn't move, and nothing else moved. It's weird.

It might be a layer of dreaming. I'm not sure. I looked it up and can't seem to find much.
Anyone who has watched the film Inception knows what the 4th layer/level is. (if you have not seen it and are allowed then I suggest you do as it is a good movie)
When I dream it usually is not about the last thing that popped into my head. I will not say that it never is but More often than not it is completely unrelated.
I have looked into a mirror while lucid once (as a test) and it did cause unpleasant things to occur. However I have heard from others that this is not the case for them so it could be a case by case thing.
I have always found that when I have a lucid dream I am in full control of what occurs to me and around me so I have not had a bad dream in quite a while and the few dreams that may be classified as 'bad' by some I have known that I am not in actual danger and can usually change things around to make things a bit more interesting. (making conveniently placed weapons etc...)
As for Astral projection I am sceptical about it. I can wander around to heaps of different places and can even see myself asleep while in some dreams but whether or not that is actual Astral projection or not I am unsure as I can also do it while awake just by thinking. Which makes me think that it is more just Imagination rather than actual projection. But I could be wrong.
Alright, for Lucid Dreaming, you cannot, and I mean CANNOT
be harmed in it, some dumb folk over on first page said that you can become stuck in it.
if you feel the need to get out simply wiggle your toes, I am going to make a megathread on the subject so don't worry.

There already is a Lucid dreaming thread it just seems that people don't look before making new topics.
For me I was just talking from my own experiences sorry if I sounded like I was talking about what will happen to everyone. I didn't mean to sound like my experiences are what everyone experiences..
And yeah Inception starts like this. You are in a Lucid Dream, You are in sleep paralysis form, you fall asleep, wake up in another dream (2nd layer), fully aware of this dream, you fall asleep again and are in another dream (3rd layer). Stop! Do not go any further, chances are very high if you fall asleep in this layer, you will be lost and thinking that you finally woke up and are in the "real world". You will keep going to sleep and it can go on for the rest of your life. To really wake up, inflict pain on yourself by slapping your face a few times, this will close all layers of your dream and you will wake up. Do a few reality checks, like turn on electronics,or watch the clock. If you watch tv for long periods of time, or stare at the clock the clock should be normal or the tv should be normal. If it isn't you will know by experiences small amounts of projections of the paranormal.
This is what I do anyway, see if it works for you. Again, I am only speaking from my own experiences... as many stated before it is impossible to avoid bad dream all together. Because methods are personal and differ from person to person

Thanks, I'll also put that in the OP. Thank you for the explanation.
My posts may appear to be inaccurate for some people. This is only because people experience Astral Projection, Lucid Dreaming, Inception, and general dreams all differently.

Yes, like I said in the OP, none of this has an unus centum pro cento chance of working.
How do people know that if you go into four or more layers of sleep the chances are you're lost? I really don't understand that.
I've never dreamed in a dream or lucid dream, don't particularly want to either. I doubt I'd be able to do anything I can't make my imagination do whilst I'm awake.
Your subconscious is like an ocean. The lower you deep, the less chance you have of surfacing.
Your subconscious is another world where you remember things you forget and see your life from birth to current life because it's stored in your brain somewhere. Too much results in confusion and/or death.

Take your bad dreams headon, and face them with courage.
