Drat,I•m stuck with this keyboard again。Oh well,I guess I•ll change it。
There. To avoid bad dreams, make the LAST thought of yours a happy thought. It has to be the VERY last thought, so it can get recirculated into your subconscious when you dream. If your last thought is "I'm dreaming," you will get a lucid dream.
Try to post your results here. I tried it and got a lucid dream, then a dream about windmills. (<-- What?)
What about you?
Edit: THIS DOES NOT HAVE A 100% CHANCE OF WORKING. Dreams are part of your subconscious, which means that everyone is different. This idea, however, works for the majority of the people by introducting a thought into your subconscious (half-dream state) and recirculating it into your dream.
Lucid dreams are dreams where you know you are dreaming and can take full advantage of it. If you think "I'm dreaming," but you can't do anything about it, technically that is a lucid dream, but not a full one.
• Watch a scary movie before sleeping. The subconscious doesn't like that crap, so it tries to fill it in with a happy thought. The scarier the movie, the better the dream.
Also, you have to WANT to think about a happy thought before you sleep. It can't be a small side note "Mumblewumle I'm dreaming" when the other part of your brain is focused on zombies (if you did this, you would get a zombie dream). You have to BELIEVE with all your brain that you WILL think about something for it to work (as I said before, not a 100% chance of working, but a reasonably high one.)
Edit 2:
Another thing to try is astral projection. However, it is VERY dangerous, so I'd not recommend it.
It is when you are in a lucid dream, but you are able to leave your body during the time you dream are able to float around like a ghost and watch yourself sleep, and are able to travel anywhere you want to go. When you are about to wake up, you are pulled back into your body and you wake up usually with muscle spasms while your mind recovers. Warning, Astral Projection is very dangerous, you may never wake up will be stuck in what is called "limbo" if your body and mind think that you are indeed awake. You will also be stuck in Limbo if you go past the 4th layer of Inception.
For me I was just talking from my own experiences sorry if I sounded like I was talking about what will happen to everyone. I didn't mean to sound like my experiences are what everyone experiences..
And yeah Inception starts like this. You are in a Lucid Dream, You are in sleep paralysis form, you fall asleep, wake up in another dream (2nd layer), fully aware of this dream, you fall asleep again and are in another dream (3rd layer). Stop! Do not go any further, chances are very high if you fall asleep in this layer, you will be lost and thinking that you finally woke up and are in the "real world". You will keep going to sleep and it can go on for the rest of your life. To really wake up, inflict pain on yourself by slapping your face a few times, this will close all layers of your dream and you will wake up. Do a few reality checks, like turn on electronics,or watch the clock. If you watch tv for long periods of time, or stare at the clock the clock should be normal or the tv should be normal. If it isn't you will know by experiences small amounts of projections of the paranormal.
This is what I do anyway, see if it works for you. Again, I am only speaking from my own experiences... as many stated before it is impossible to avoid bad dream all together. Because methods are personal and differ from person to person
Ok, sorta right and sorta wrong.
Lucid Dreaming is being aware of yourself dreaming,
In a lucid dream you can meet your subconcious, and ask questions blah blah.
It doesn't have to be your last thought,
it has to be around the time for you to remember it into dreams.
I watched scary zombie movies last night and dreamt about zombies,
It was a lucid dream so it was scary.
If you really want to not have a bad dream,
Don't think about it.
While you're in a Lucid Dream here are the do not's
* Do not look in mirrors
* Do not ask your subconcious what your greatest fear is, it will show you! Instead ask it
'What is my greatest fear, tell me it VERBALLY.'

Theres a few more that I forgot.
Like I said, the thought "I'm dreaming" will be recirculated into your dream as with any last thought, so you can immediately tell that you're dreaming and make a lucid dream. I've done this accidentally when I was 8 and when I was 13, and I tried it now and it worked.
Also, to answer your quote, yes, it's possible to do that, but I'm only stating the easy ways. But I suppose if it's burned into your brain.
The best ways to have a pleasant dream are:
• Look in a mirror. Mirrors in dreams tend to "show" items or things that might be helpful. If you punch the mirror, you will usually be able to obtain the item behind the mirror.
• Watch a scary movie before sleeping. The subconscious doesn't like that crap, so it tries to fill it in with a happy thought. The scarier the movie, the better the dream.
• Perform the ritual to summon Cthulhu. Cthulhu, also popularly known as The Happiness Fairy tends to grant wishes in a dream.
• Look for clocks. This should be obvious, clocks are always an object of happiness. Grandfather clocks are the best.
^^ Those are bad lol.
Looking into things in your dream with them returns with bad images.
The reason for Mirrors, Windows and clocks to not look in them is, when in a lucid dream
you cannot see through windows and cannot see yourself in a mirror thus making your mind confused and making it project
something scary.
Cthulhu is the lord of darkness, putting the world into 3000 years of darkness and suffering.
Man scary movies makes me go to an accidental WILD every time....
Once a couple of my friends and I watched the ring and I had about 2 WILDs for a week....
Mostly about Samara popping out in every possible places where there's a reflection. (TV, computer, psp, mirror, cellphone)
I wouldn't really watch scary movies 'nuff said.

I've only been in one lucid dream. It ended when I asked myself, "why am I here?" I awoke with a start and panicked breathing, before realizing that nothing was wrong.
What’s that thing called where are able to watch yourself sleep and be aware that you are moving about freely and be all "ghost like" while you want to be in a lucid dream but are able to go further then lucid dreaming? I think that’s called "astro" something forgot the name >.<
But anyway, I remember doing that once or twice, watching myself sleep and was able to float around like a ghost. Then I looked at the clock, and it turned many shades of pretty colors then started to glow as well as change from numbers to letters. After that I remember getting pulled back into my body and started to actually dream.
So yeah, looking at clocks = bad idea.
I never looked into a mirror though, perhaps I shall try that when I am able to do that astro thing again =D
Lotta times now, I Lucid dream and turn on Tvs and Computers with my mind or my fingers that are not sur-come to sleep paralysis. *btw this stinks when you are able to lucid dream, but can't move!"
I can also inception myself from time to time but can only go to layer 4. Going past layer 4, I risk being able to never return to the real world. Be very careful with Inception, crap can get very confusing, and you may get lost within it. Watch the movie for tips and hints, its actually quite accurate.
On topic, sorry about the tangent =D
If you think happy thoughts, your subconscious develops dreams based off of those or starts off from those, is totally a myth... I tried it, it it works like 45 percent of the time. Once I watched Family Guy (the william shatner star trek parody), then right after fell asleep and dreamt I was watching "Martin" a show I hadn't seen in 10 or 13 years! The script was from a show called "Alf" another show I hadn't seen since I was 5. So good dream + very last thought = dream about it; myth.

If you are not playing the game, then you are letting the game play you.
I was just reading the first post and a few things occurred to me. One requirement of dreaming is imagination. If you switch your lifestyle to one that effectively destroys your ability to imagine things, you've taken a preventative step against having bad dreams.
From a psychologist's perspective, dreaming is where the unconscious/subconscious mind interprets and further processes information it has assimilated causing data to meld, become dropped, glitch out, ghost out, or even become corrupted depending on a person's learning process, brain chemistry, brain development, diet, and exactly how long before sleep a learning incident took place. Any effort made in trying to alter one of these fields into oblivion is a logical preventative step against dreaming let alone against bad dreams.
I don't really have lucid dreams... I rarely remember anything when I wake up, and when I do, it's usually really disturbing and strange... but not necessarily scary.
If I ever have a lucid dream(which I won't), I'm going to try that.
Trust me, don't. You'll get so confused that you won't know what's reality and what's dreaming. Best to perform it with reality checks, but they often fail for me.
I've had a few lucid dreams before, but I either wake up after a few minutes or I forget that I'm dreaming. My sleeping habits have been going out of control lately, though. Can't sleep, and when I do I wake up at 4-5 am gasping from a nightmare.
Trying not to think before I sleep used to help prevent bad dreams. When my last thought is happy I get a nightmare.
Astral Projection? Wow you have good concentration...
That's it thanks for this, I been wondering about that for along while. It takes of practice and it is very rare as is even with practice there is no guarentee it will work. I astral projected like 3 times in my whole life.

Drat, I should've cleaned up that ritual I've made to Cthulu about killing t---
Woah I said too much.
Sometimes I wonder if it's all too easy.
Lying, cheating, stealing your way to victory.
Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
