Even if you've never seen the show before or care nothing for it, I simply don't see how you might perceive everyone with a pony avatar as being 'the same person'. I don't understand or know anything about Homestuck, but I have no problem distinguishing everyone with an avatar of it. The Steve avatars I can understand though. I don't know why anyone would keep that for more than a dozen posts
I watch(ed) the show, doesn't make a difference to me. There are a few that stand out, but other than that they seem almost identical. I had a MLP avatar *cringe* last year when I was watching the show. Sometimes I couldn't even find my own posts.
Really now? When I see Princess Celestia I always think "Nerevar" when I see a humanized Rainbow Dash I always think "Mislike." To me it sounds you either have bad memory, or just don't care enough to remember certain avatars to certain names.

You must not have been around when more than half - I'm not exaggerating - of the people here had MLP avatars.

I've been here since March of 2011, I remember many MLP avatars, myself included. I still recognized them, and even if they looked similar, I at least recognized their names.
Some of the miner ones that I don't like seeing are avatars that are low resolution, stretched/squished, and are broken linked.
The ones I hate seeing the most are people that have the default Steve avatars. I mean seriously people, you too lazy to get or make an avatar yourself?
I used to have a meme as my signature, but then I took a look at the comments on this thread. I saw that most people did not like it, and I saw that it is very uncreative. Instead, I changed it to Milbee's deviantart profile picture. Awesome, right?

Welp, this post just took the cake.
The majority of the time, MLP avatars are pictures taken directly from the show. The generic nature of these (along with the fact that there are so many people using them), makes it very difficult to distinguish members. Your only chance of even distinguishing people via-avatar is to memorize the pose that the pony is in.
Also: NOBODY BUT YOU AND A SELECT FEW CLOPPING BRONIES THAT "DO IT FOR THE ART" WANTS TO SEE A GODDAMN PONY/FURRY PORNO EVERY TIME YOU POST. IT'S NOT PLEASANT, AND I'M GETTING TIRED OF WEBSITES BEING RUINED BECAUSE I HAVE TO STARE AT FURRY PORN BECAUSE YOU USE THOSE SHITTY AVATARS AS SOME SORT OF "PRIDE FLAG."
Normal bronies that don't wave around their fandom like they're some sort of oppressed minority are okay though.

I think similarly about those dirty hetero/homosexuals. I don't want to see your soft-core porn in your avatar all the time.
The default Steve avatars are pretty boring, but they don't actively annoy me, and I couldn't care less about MLP avatars. I guess the only avatars that actually annoy me are pictures of scantily-clad women (real or anime) or furries in suggestive poses, which thankfully I don't encounter very often.

It was only half?

Personally, I don't like how I had to reduce color on my gif to make it work with forums, but it doesn't look 100% shitty, so I used it.

That's why I chose mine, the forever dancing Panda.
Somewhat offtopic - I love your avatar. I haven't listened to the Gorillaz in a while, thanks for reminding me of them. (:
On topic:
I sometimes wish moderators would outright ban such avatars from use personally. Keep that **** for a more appropriate site please.
I would sort of agree, but heavily moderating avatars is just plain silly.
To be fair, at the very least enough to keep people from keeping an avatar that's softcore porn in for 5 months straight.
Yeah. There certainly should be a general guideline to avatars.
