Has anyone here done this? It sounds uncomfortable to me but I'm considering it anyway because I have seasonal allergies and my sinuses are regularly clogged up (which impairs my sleep). I know there are various medications I can take but I tend to avoid using medication when I can.
There are critics of nasal irrigation but I haven't really heard much of a reason against it. Although there is one rather big warning about a potentially deadly infection you can get but if you take adequate precautions (using distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water) there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. Although I will say that I'm one of those people that occasionally gets nose bleeds so doing this might cause one... or it might help stop them.
I don't know. I'm on the fence about this one. Anyone here done this before? If so; how often and what is it like? Do you think it is helpful?
Woah I have never seen this before. So you just put water in the tube to clear out the nose? Looks weird, but I don't have seasonal allergies so that's why I don't use it. But if the allergies are really annoying then hell yeah I would use this.
Yeah I would always use boiled water. But if you drink from tap water then would you still have a chance of getting the infection or is it just through the nose?

Actually it isn't just water... it recommends salt water. I haven't found a suggestion as to how much salt is in the water but I imagine it's a weak solution... weaker than ocean water. Or so I assume. As I said, I've never done this before. I was hoping someone on this forum has. It is my understanding that this is a relatively common practice in other countries.

I'm not sure. On the wiki page it just mentions a couple people who have died from the infection and not much else.
I've heard of people getting deadly parasites from doing it.
I'm not worried about it. I will definitely be using distilled water so it isn't an issue. I don't even drink the tap water here so I'm not about to use it in my nose.
What else do you know about this? Have you done it before? Care to describe it for someone who has never seen or heard of anyone doing it before?
I know someone that does that. They say they do it when they have a cold, and that you sort of have to get it at the right angle for it not to feel odd and for it to work correctly. And also that a lot of blood comes out when you have a cold.

That's kind of what I'm worried about. I pretty much live with sinus problems all the time. I rarely have a day when I can breathe normally through my nose and at night one nostril is always clogged (which one seems to depend on how I am laying). If I do this I think I'll remove a lot of built up stuff and possibly cause a nose bleed... I'm not looking forward to it but it sounds like it might be a good idea.

I imagine you should use water with the same salinity as our natural body fluid. The wiki page for isotonic saline even mentions nasal irrigation.
I haven't heard of this anywhere else, but it looks interesting. I would be too afraid to try it though.

I think as long as you don't try to glug water into your nose, you'd be fine. But expect discomfort, especially when you're not at the correct angle.

Just use distilled water.
