Over the christmas holidays someone in my class at school was diagnosed with leukaemia. Luckily they found it early, and he has a 95% survival rate. My class of 28 boys decided to start a fundraiser and shave our heads for this boy. We raised $23 000 (Australian) in total, breaking the school record for fund raising by far. If only 28 boys and their friends and relatives can raise this much, why can't we do it for other organisations? If we all donated a few hundred dollars a year to less fortunate people and places the world would be a much better place. Why don't people donate too much? It's not hard. Say if all of Australia donated just $10 we would have $200 million. That could help countless towns in less fortunate third world countries.
Because Australia is committed to foreign aid. Australia is the 6th highest donating country to foreign aid in the world with 70 million dollars each year to eradicate Aids, Hep B, tetnis(vaccination since tetnis is in the soil) for kids living in poverty all around the world. By 2013 Australia aims to donate over 120 million dollars to these aid companies. Don't say we don't donate
I donate quite a bit. Not a large sum, but every time I pass by someone taking donations and I have paper money on hand, I'll give some (or more than likely all since I don't like carrying paper money). More people donate than you realize, but the fact of the matter is you can't solve all of the world's problems with benjamins alone. I'd argue that humans are inherantly kind hearted and good. Think about how often you see people giving homeless people money on the side of the road. It's likely that they're just going to take that money and invest it in some premium alcohol or narcotics, and we all know it, but we do it anyway. One homeless guy was even an asshole to me and I still gave him money. He saw me smoking a cigar and said "I KNOW YOU GOTS MONEY WITH DAT FANCY CIGAR! I NEEDS A BIT FOR DA BUS TICKET! DO YA HAVE ANY SPARE?" I didn't have much, but I'm sure it helped him get his "bus ticket" for the day.
Because a lot of people can't afford 10 dollars to spare. And the ones that can, are greedy. People have to live, not just donate their earned money all the time. Sure, I'd like to see people be helped, but I don't want others going in debt just to help them. In the real world, its yourself, then others.
Without awareness, No one will do anything to help.
My DeviantArt, so sexy
Travis, please don't stereotype.
Ooh, you disobeyed his rule, you're such a rebel...
All joking aside, just as Travis said, people are greedy...
