Hey guys I have recently started going to the gym and wanted to get some advice from any fellow Minecrafters who also go to the gym. Currently I am 16, 6"5, and Weigh 110KG. I am a little bit fat/chubby but I wouldn't go as far to say I am obese (Most of the fat is around my stomach area). I have quite a sturdy body type I am not lanky, I have quite broad shoulders, long arms and legs with quite a large bone mass.
My aim for going to the gym is to lose weight and bulk up. But I'm not sure if you can do both at the same time or if it is best to lose the excess weight first, and then bulk up. This is where you come in.. I want to know which way would be more beneficial.
I would also like to know if you guys/girls have found any good cardio routines for losing the weight. Currently I am just doing running on the treadmill (Trying to aim for about a 3-4km run) to lose weight also accompanied by core at the end of my gym session (after I have done all my main muscle groups with weights). My diet is pretty good, I try to avoid fatty/sugary foods and other things which just aren't good for me.
well running is good and it burns off alot of excess weight fast and if you have the option to swim do that because treading water for 10 minutes is = to running a mile and swimming laps can build uper body and shread weight my routine is kinda hectic but effective but its too hective to post here

Thanks for the reply. I would love to go swimming, but sadly my time schedule is tight enough as it is and would require me to go all the way across the otherside of town to go swimming (plus extra fee on top of the gym). I will keep at the running and see how I go.
Do not do cardio if you are trying to lose weight, doing that will make your thighs look big and your upper body look small. Jog for 30 mins a day. Do some lifts and situps. Do it for about 9 months and all your fats should be gone.
Check out High Intensity Interval training, or HIIT. Ask your personal trainer (if you have one) about starting it, or check youtube.
Pretty much as the name suggests it is intense training where certain tasks are done for ~1minute, then you rest for 10-20 seconds, and start a second exercise.
You do this daily for ~30 minutes and you will see results fast.
Interval training is best done if you already have a bit of fitness behind you. if your just starting out wait 1-2 months before starting these exercises so your body can get used to it gradually rather than instantly.
You should also prioritize loosing weight before bulking up. As you will see a much better result this way.
In a nutshell; apart from a healthy diet, limit your fat and carb intake. When you want to start bulking up you will need to increase your carbs along with a good protein intake (~140g daily for your size/weight).
If you start bulking up with carbs/protein now you will see little gain short term and will take longer for you to see results.
I don't really exercise at all, really, but I should start to. Running can burn off weight as much as Swimming can burn off weight easily and increase upper-body strength.
I've been thinking of doing daily jogs or something similar but I'm shy and such in all types of ways, so I'd probably have to do it a huge plot of private property where people can't stare or look at me. As for working out, I'm very weak, so it kind of lowers my self-esteem when around others who can actually lift a lot and I don't know anything about working out.
For me, My every other day routine is Jogging on the first day, then burning out in the gym the next routine day, and Calisthenics on the next and so on and so fort. With a balanced diet to top it off, You'll build up a great body. :smile.gif:
Depends on how you work, try and do sets of muscles a day, like Monday do sit ups and leg lifts and Tuesday do pulls down and curl ups, and then Tuesday do pull downs and more arm things I can't remember the name of, and then go back to sit ups and leg lifts on Wednesday. Also, run everyday for at least 50 minutes and stretch, swimming is pretty good if you are feeling tired and don't want to lift weights. I usually end my work outs with balance curls and weight training. Eat bananas!
Weight training being normal bench or forward inclined, but that's just me
The rest of the reddit/Fitness is nice too. There are really good pieces of advice in the threads, not just internet and magazine crap.
Anyway, one tip from my experiences: don't go for that little piece of chocolate. It's easier to not eat it in the first place than to say no to the rest of the bar. But I really like sweets, so... (;
As a runner, I advise you not to run on a treadmill.
Terribly repetitive and if you consistently do it for weeks (like you need to in order to lose weight) you'll become very bored and tired of it. Instead, I think you should go to the track, or if your gym has an indoor track, go there. If not, running outside is really good.
Don't jog if you wanna bulk up. Sure it burns fat, but it burns muscle too. Better to lift weights and do hill sprints, that's what my routine was til I injured my leg.

Not true. Jogging increases your lactic acid threshold, burns fat, and spurs your muscle to undergo more motor neuron recruitment. It also causes your muscle cells to grow additional mitochondria. Theres no sense in just "bulking up" when you can train the muscle you already have.
I don't know what kind of body type you have, as a prior sprinter, I can only speak for people that have high ratios of fast twitch muscle fibers. I could never run more than a mile or so because of it, but at my best I could sprint 22 miles per hour. (inb4 someone tries to rag on me or disprove it because this is "omg so unlikely".)
If you're more a slow twitch endurance type, you'd probably benefit a lot from lifting, plyometrics, and a cardio routine. Don't forget you still have to eat decently. And don't overtrain, take it one step at a time. Lots of protein and whatnot.
Lastly. Despite what anyone might tell you, DON'T use caffeine as a workout aid. For one, the increase in dopamine constricts your blood vessels, for another, it increases cortisol levels, which give you less muscle gain from what you've done.
I never personally trained much to be honest, just basic stuff. Thats what I know though. Good luck.

I want some sensible answers here please.
