Because moon and earth both have a certain amount of gravity, so they effect each others. If they moon would suddenly vanish (or just break into smaller pieces), it's gravity would vanish too and the earth's orbit would be disbalanced.
You know, Earth didn't always have a moon. And we aren't closer or farther then we should be.
I once tried out a very simple simulator made my some polish dude.
You created bodies of different mass and then saw how they interacted...
The earths orbit was definately very much different without a moon.
That **** is fragile!
A simple simulator wouldn't replicate how everything would effect the Earths orbit. Also, if one random person made it, why do you think it is accurate?
I much prefer our actual detonation of a uranium bomb right outside of our atmosphere to try and make an EMP to keep Russians from sending ICBMs at us.
During the cold war, the USSR and the US went to extraordinary lengths to gain an edge over one another. This was especially true with nuclear technology. To improve their nuclear devices, they tested their bombs on land, underground, underwater, and even in space.
But has the US ever detonated a nuclear bomb on the moon?
Top Secret Programs?
In the late 1950′s, the United States Air Force developed a program called Project A119. Officially called, “A Study of Lunar Research Flights”. Unofficially it was called, “Let’s nuke the moon to show the world we can”.
This is hardly surprising. Reagan spent a shitton of money trying to put lasers in space during the cold war for defense. It seems all of the stupid ideas come from the US...

He told the Soviets we had a Death Star that we'd use if they attacked us and they believed it lol
2 words CART.TOON.
No way. Really?
You don't say!
I want you to have this:
I think it could really help you in the future.
****ing teasing the Middle East, let's nuke Celestial objects! It'll be a killer light-show.
My DeviantArt, so sexy
My hillbilly wife told me it would work and that I should shoot my initials onto the moon's surface.
It didn't work out too well.
Adding to this: did you ever see the moon Mimas? A shitton of craters and no Oxygen.
*there may or may not be cake

^Many thanks to Nerevar117 for making this.

Oh yeah!
I'm sorry but this is hilarious.
