Hey Fellas, I'm no preacher.. But this stuff definitely has been a focus in my life.
I understand why some choose to not believe any of this stuff, really It may not scientifically make sense. But Every other religion, it's about doing good to go to the "afterlife" . What's different about Christianity, is it's COMPELTELY faith based. It's not about just being a good person, honestly, Even non believers can be the most humble people. But It's simply digging into the gospel, and having faith, and trusting that what Jesus did for us is true. I don't like seeing others fight over Christianity, and others claiming they are christians when they completely mutilate others, but there are people who pose as false witnesses, and give a bad name really.
It's everyones choice to believe, simple as that. But You can't say anyone is not afraid of Hell. I only hope some can choose to believe and see how God works through your live and others. Definitely life changing.
Lack of Evidence doesn't support Lack of Presense.
Do you see Gravity? Nope, doesn't mean it's not there.
Do you see your Brain? Nope, doesn't mean it's not there, heck it's what keeps you alive.
Do you see God? Nope, but that's ultimately our gift, as followers. But doesn't mean he's not there. .
You do realize that The Big Bang Theory doesn't make provisions for the existence of time before its happening, right?
OH NO, I TOTALLY THOUGHT TIME ALWAYS EXISTED FOREVER
Maybe you'll figure out my point, someday. But probably not.

We don't need to see gravity, we can prove it another way.
We can see human and other animal brains.
Where's god? Ah, yeah. He's nowhere to be found. Didn't even leave any good evidence behind.
Atheism has not, does not, and never will have the burden of proof. To be an atheist does NOT mean that you expect to find proof of (lack of) existence of a diety. An atheist simply believes that there is a lack of evidence proving that a god or creator does exist.
I hope that those responding to the thread will at least demonstrate some level of decency and avoid the whole, "Well you prove he DOESN'T EXIST!" argument.
faith in god = believe = opinion = subjective ≠ objective and applyable in general
your argument is invalid
Faith doesn't prove his existence, it only allows people to see it and understand it.
Faith is to God as logic is to sciences. Faith and logic are the tools used to observe God or science (and no, one cannot truly deny God, or else nothing would exist, nothing would ever BE). You cannot deny the fact that something is there with science or God. But at the same time you'll never be able to truly understand it without the use of something else, like logic or indeed, faith.
Faith is not an opinion. It's a gift, an accomplishment, a lens in which one can see God. Much in the same matter as logic.
I'm not one of those ****ing dumbasses following the Bible because a magical, omnipotent skydaddy told us it was his word.
So... no stereotypes, please.
Aren't you the guy or girl who pretty much said that unexplainable things and events are the result of divine interference, or god?
I can dig up the post if you want.
EDIT: Not to mention you were the first to stereotype on Atheist. What? You don't like it when it's done to you? Well, goddamn. That sucks, I guess we have to use logic now :c
I wasn't trying to be mean I just knew that people that don't believe in God really shouldn't come here for obvious reasons... Well, I guess it was kind of stupid of me to put "If your'e not Christian then don't even come" Because obviously they will just to be ass holes and get mad at me...
Yea they'll get mad at you, you excluded a group because your view isn't compatible with theirs. I think it would spur some bad thoughts if someone wrote a thread and in the description put "If you're muslim, go away".
We have a thread for you to release your angst in. Now **** off to it.
K for your information, asshole, I have seen a lion. And not one of your crap ass queen of the jungle homoerotic ****-cat lions. A real lion, with fangs and horns and wings and ****. Don't pull your ****ing wierd ass african voodoo hypnosis crap on me when you don't even know wtf you're talking about.
because i know some mod will be ignorant to the ways of the internet, this is a JOKE, i am not SERIOUS, ethugtxtftw

The whole principle of anything infinite is that is has no beginning. That's what would make it infinite. It would be existence itself, in a sense. As an infinite regression is impossible, there are two commonly accepted options: either the universe is infinite or it was created by something infinite.
If any senator wishes to read this, I suggest a SUSA bill. Stop United States Act. If the internet needs to babysit your lawmaking, Then there's something wrong.
The most common explanation for the Christian god I hear is that it exists outside of space and time, and so to ask where it came from is meaningless as that is a temporal question. This of course is useless and explains nothing since none of it can be verified.
Lack of Evidence doesn't support Lack of Presense.

Absence of evidence IS evidence of absence where we should expect to find evidence of something were it to exist. If I search my pocket and I don't find money, the absence of evidence of money in my pocket IS evidence against the existence of money in my pocket.
We see the evidence of gravity. We can measure it, quantify it, and predict it. We can see our brains with MRIs and by cutting open people's skulls. We can interfere with it by using electromagnetic helmets.
If you are a Battletech/Mechwarrior geek you may enjoy my Timberwolf/MADCAT model (the source of my avatar) (warning: image-heavy link target) I will often edit my posts after I have posted them in an attempt to improve their clarity (I value a few high quality posts over several low quality ones; the more lengthy the post, the more time it requires to edit) so you might want to wait for a while if this post is recent and refresh to see if anything has changed before replying to it.

That was a hell of an improvement.

Can we do the same for God? No.
I'm not here to argue.. But it's just about having faith that it is true.. All I can say.
I bet Hundreds of years ago, a 2 faced pig was just unheard off... Until now, when we have all seen a 2 faced pig, I bet you it's been recorded, shared, and will ultimately always be in some documents forever. The Bible was the same thing. When Jesus was born, he came, worked miracles, and saved us from our sins.. The Bible is documentation of just that, but because that time has passed... There's no way someone can actually see that for themselves now, therefor a Lack of faith.. or belief...
It's about trusting what it has to say. But THe bible says a lot about Satan hunting those that lack faith like a roaring lion. I can only hope those who don't believe, just look into it. I'm no preacher, but I've been on both sides, and I've been saved.

The bible isn't an original work. The things Jesus did were not unique to Jesus. Others did the born of virgin, giving sight to the lame, etc. Why believe that one and not the others?

Those stories were planted by [trickster entity] to tempt us away from the one true [means of removing problem inherent to all humans]! This claim couldn't possibly be made for the other [means of removing problem inherent to all humans] stories because they are only stories about regular people that got exaggerated![/sarcasm]
Swap body thetans for (original) sins and dianetics for Jesus and you've turned Christianity into Scientology!

I like arguments in general, and especially theological, because some people really baffle me.
I like discussion/arguments as well; but in most discussions you can actually learn something useful, or at least the arguments usually encounter more of that.

Is this better?
Also, we have a religion thread for a reason.
Since we are attacking stances on religion...
I can't believe I didn't notice this thread sooner. There is nothing I like more than a little religious debate.
