I'm failing to see how this means anything. So some particle moves faster than light and oh god physics doesnt work anymore? That makes no sense. ANy one wanna ekplain it simpily?
Even though it is just likely an equipment malfunction.

Look it's big red text!
Now that being said. Ponies.
One of the fundamental things about physics is that NOTHING can travel faster than light. And if a few particles do it, what's to stop a few more, and more, until you're hurling cows everywhere at lightspeed.
Is it quite possible to include this feature in future space crafts?

Just like the other guys said the fact that NOTHING moves faster than light is fundamental. Einstein's theories revolve around this fact.

I get that, but isn't lightspeed just a top limit? and the top limit is what the theory revolve on?
Because its supposed to take an infinite amount of energy to break the speed of light. The faster you go the more energy you'd need until you need an infinite amount of energy. Breaking the speed of light is supposed to be impossible because its impossible to produce an infinite amount of energy.
My knowledge of speed of light is simple but when we see through a telescope to see a object let's say 300 light years away (300 years to see it here). We could possibly be seeing it earlier than that. O-o correct me if I am wrong.
You could not. Light still travels at the speed of light, but things could move faster than it.
Well yeah It wouldnt be top limit. oh god im tired forgive my lock of skill. why would physics be un raveled?wouldn't it just mean albert was wrong about the number, and particle/wave? Like insteaid of photons at x its nutrinos at y?

The fact said cows are larger than a proton.
I believe what makes Neutrinos so special is because they are so small.

Lets just say that things may turn out to be more confusing than they already are after this.

They just made some idiotic mistake and it hasn't been discovered yet. It will be, in a week or two.
Some of the smartest people in the world, working with some of the most advanced equipment in the world, searching for weeks for a mistake they made. Yup, sure is a simple idiotic mistake they just looked over.

Well, no, light is light. But neutrinos like those mentioned in this experiment could have reached Earth earlier than that.

They even searched for errors. This is ****ing unbelievable and shakes the whole foundation of physics.
I need to know more.
Michelangelo
My bet is on some kind of equipment malfunction or a misreading in how it was measured.
They would not bring an embarrassing thing like this that shakes the foundations of physics to the public if they weren't sure.
Michelangelo
That sounds like something Michael Crichton would write about.

Fixed it for you.
Probably not.

If this is true, then that is not the limit.

It is! :biggrin.gif: And scary at the same time.

That's what I hope. I wouldn't like to read everything that in any way involves the maximum speed of matter again.
