Somewhere, there is a really smart dude who won a bet that he could convince a bunch of otherwise normal dudes that MLP was anything but a shitty kids show.
The fact he succeeded is either a testement to his charisma, or to how many blind followers there are on the net.
The creators of the newest incarnation did a lot of things right.
First off, they made the characters likable and interesting. I legitimately can tell each individual apart now by behavior, design, animation, and occurrence. This is a good thing, considering I detested the old series having made every pony so similar in behavior I could never distinguish them.
Secondly, the animation is smooth and beautiful. This show proves that Flash can be mastered and executed in such a way that every little movement seems to come naturally to the characters. The little things like the movement of the eyes, the hair, and the canter of their differing states of movement is really something fantastic. I also enjoy they kept a lot of cartoonish elements, without overdoing it to the point of becoming annoying or cheesy. Pinkie Pie cracks me up every episode I see her, and it's always fun to wonder where she's going to pop in next. I feel like the creators used her as a homage to older cartoons, such as Looney Tunes (her little Pepe Le Pew hop) or old Benny Hill sketches.
Thirdly, the voice acting is spot on. Every pony has a different voice, pitch, range, and I can tell exactly who is speaking without having to look up to see who's talking. That's more than can be said for this franchise's last few runs. Trust me, put on one of the 3.5 gen cartoons and it's almost impossible for me to go, "Yes, that is definitely ---- speaking." The direct to dvd specials are the worst offenders.
Fourth, the story writing is GOOD. The old series fell prey to a lot of female stereotypes, like petty arguing, catfights, and immature outlooks. I hated watching the ponies argue over trivial things like who was really the star of the princess promenade crystal palace whatsitorother... Yes, the new series has disagreements - but they don't escalate nearly as badly as the old show. I felt like in every other episode, someone was running away over hurt feelings or pride. Friendship is Magic doesn't DO this. Even at their worst fighting, the mane six usually separate to resolve the issue when more collected, or go to others for sincere advice on how best to handle the problem.
Lastly, it's fun. It's a fun show to watch, a fun community, and a fun experience I'm happy to be part of. Any and all are welcome in it - so come join us and take a look. Even if you don't become a die-hard fan, I guarantee that you'll walk away from it with at least a few chuckles at the well-written humor and quips.
I did too, but I got hooked on the first episode..

I'm probably older than you bro.
And I love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Yes sir I understand that, it's just your wording in your last post was a little stereotypical =P
The show isn't for everyone, that's for sure, you cannot please everyone, no matter how hard you try.
Correction:
Everywhere but the off topic section is populated with little kids
You have just read this. You are also manually breathing.
Cant Wait For 1.8
Worded differently.
