Why wouldn't you? Respect your country, it's not a contract to sell your soul, it's the pledge of allegiance. You know, you are saying you are in allegiance with your country?

Because I don't believe USA is a theocracy. I'm not very proud to live here, despite my freedom. I appreciate it, though I'd say it doesn't take away the things USA has done.

Since when does memorizing empty words by rote equate respect for my country? Furthermore, why do I have to respect my country?

It's like a circle-jerk of family values, Christianity and nationalism.
Exactly what I was going to say, might as well pack up your stuff right now and leave. Seriously guys, you really need to learn what our country went through to get to where it is now. If it wasn't for the friken country you live in you might not be in school, so cut the crap. :dry.gif:

Then move to another country.
OH WAIT!
You would be made fun of, because no other country acts like us. We would be laughed at or raged at for being disrespectful.

In middle school I wouldn't even stand up for the pledge. Now my first period teacher makes me stand up, but I still don't say the pledge. It's not because I don't care for my country - I'm going to go into the military - it's because I refuse to say a pledge for a country that talks about freedom of religion, then turns around and slaps "under god" into its pledge.
No one says the pledge in my class but we do have to stand. I wouldnt mind saying it in the reason that its not giving my 'soul' to AMERICUH Its just not that hard to do it plus youre in America at least say it. In mexico (lol beaner) we used to do a small ceremony everyday everyone stood at the edges of the field and there was a marching band with the flag and everything thats probably why I wouldnt mind

I agree with smash. Just because you live somewhere, doesn't mean you have to like, or respect it.

So anyone else not say the pledge?

Otherwise I do say it, I'm thinking about not doing it anymore.

i don't say the pledge and just stand there mumbling to seem that i am saying it.
If I were born in this country I would not have been proud of it for over forty years now.
