What is wrong with pride in where you live, you sir, need to go outside more.
Toast burner, please tell me how patriotism is a sign of weakness..... If anyone can elaborate on that, let me know. In terms of strength, there is nothing stronger than believing in your cause and your country.
After 10:30 PST, my IQ drops to around that of a shovel, please disregard anything I say after aforementioned time, it will likely not make any sense, and is best ignored.
What exactly does "believing in your country" mean? Is it just a hot patriotism buzzword?

Powers are for the weak. I have no powers. I mean - unless you count the power to blow minds with my weapons-grade philosophical insights. I'm a thought-o-coaster, I'm the conundrummer in a band called Life Puzzler.
The same thing that's wrong with having pride in whatever toilet you use. It's silly. I've never once stood up and said "I'm proud to have taken a dump in the O'Hare airport bathrooms."

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.

You can be proud of your toilet if you were personally involved in its construction or crafting. Of course, then you're proud of your craftsmanship of what happens to be the toilet that you poop in, not actually the toilet itself.

I admire the complexity of the toilet. I bask in all it's clean glory.
Before you start: I'm not a psychopath and the government doesn't prevent us from picking up a knife and stabbing someone, it's only bothered about punishment.
So in the anarchy of 'abolute freedom' so to speak, you really think that you could provide for yourself and create a better quality of life then you have now? Obviously a capitalistic system would collapse quickly, and I really don't see how you could be better off with no government of any type at all.
Also, about the cage thing, if you really are really not proud of your country, go somewhere where you can be proud of what they stand for. And if your "cage" is a four star hotel in the middle of a cesspool, it is fine by me, but I am quite content with what I have now. (That is not to say that it is perfect or that there is nothing better though)
except that most 1st world countries are the reason why the other countries are poor and usually shitholes?
colonialism works so great. >.<
No, the reasons that many (not all though) are in their state is because of:
-Poor leadership
-Failed governing systems
-Failure to develop industry
-Failure to develop technology to keep up with the world
-Poor military system
-Pool location
-Lack of unity
-Religious conflicts
-Racial conflicts
Etc.
But definitely not the reasons for all third world countries.
Aren't you glad you live in a country without those things though?
In all seriousness, patriotism is a just an excuse for people to feel good about something without actually doing anything to feel good about.
They are not trying to 'feel good about' something without doing something. Patriotism is simply about being proud and acknowledging the fact that you are lucky to be where you are and that it could be a lot worse, therefore you are grateful for where you live, not that you made it what it is, but appreciating those who did.
You have no control over where you're born so having pride over it is pointless.
Patriotism shows lack of strength to stand on your own and that you can easily be controlled and manipulated by your country. It's like the Germans in 1930-1945, patriotism was very high then and it left a lot of people blind to what their government was actually doing.
You have no control over the family you were born into, but do you still thank them for providing for you, and aren't you glad that they could do that for you? Being proud of your parents is not wrong. They are proud of you, and they had no control of you being born the way you were.
Unless you are not proud and happy of your family (assuming normal circumstances), in which case you are an unappreciative little ****.
And since when is there strength in "standing on your own"? I see what you are saying with individualism, but honestly, you will never win that way. And if you are fighting with other people with similar beliefs, for what you believe, that is the same concept as nationalism in a way. Does that mean that all nationalists are being controlled by their government? Of course not. People can make their own choices, so it is wrong to make assumptions like that all nationalism shows weakness.
I do somewhat agree with the second part though. It reminds me of Orwell's 1984, in which they have "Hate Week" to rally up nationalism with propaganda to get people all strongly convinced of what they want them to.
And anyone who thinks it is only Americans who are so obnoxious with their national pride has never talked to a Frenchman.
The second was serious though. I'm not a fan of negativity.
You're going to have to deal with a LOT of it in life.
You'll have to get used to it.
I find it hard for me to hate the country that gives me the free speech to type this up, but is destroying their people every day. These things are "justified" by them giving us such rights, even though people probably won't be alive to even use them with the rate of this country.

At least I'm not Magic Johnson though. He has to deal with AIDS. =/
Well, it could certainly provide for everyone a decent quality of life.
Is that last paragraph a thinly veiled "If you don't like this country, leave" thing (Because it's certainly no argument)?
It certainly looks that way reading it back, but I did not intend it that way. I meant that there is not too many better places in the world, so maybe it is a matter of perspective.
Anarchy does not provide a decent quality of life. Like communism, it is a nice concept, but it would inevitably be 'survival of the fittest'. Stupid human nature.
Humans are naturally selfish and merit-inclined? Please... this conception of humanity only appeared under capitalism. If we want an older conception of human nature we could say that humans are defined primarily by "original sin." Some people still believe this, too.
Tormented has wrote lots about this, look for his posts about it if you haven't.
Look at any species in nature. They will kill and do what they need to to survive. Being 'selfish' is natural because the desire to live is natural, and no one else cares about you, they care for themselves first, and then you. Why would they sacrifice themselves for you when it means the end of them? This system does not work unless literally everyone plays along, and that has never happened in human history (sustainably). One does not survive outside of civilization by being nice and trying to help everyone. Competition is a natural trait.

It's bad to be proud of my toilet?
And mine's low flow, too! It's saving the environment!

Please take your negativity somewhere else.
Please, PLEASE, let this be a joke.
The first line was absolutely a joke.
