I believe there is no god because there is no evidence of a supernatural all powerful deity up in the sky, my hardships have nothing to do with my faith and were basically a very bad example of my new beliefs, I;m very familair with job, its my favorite book.
So you don't believe in a god because of the personal hardships you've faced in life (because god would totally interfere in something like that so that he can keep everyone happy), but you do not believe in evolution.
You're not either atheist or agnostic. You can be an agnostic atheist. I have the feeling you don't know that atheist is the opposite of a theist, and an agnostic is the opposite of being gnostic.
'The terms "theist" and "atheist" together categorize every living person on Earth, in the same way the terms "have been to Canada" and "have not been to Canada" do. "Agnostic" refers to knowledge, not belief. Being agnostic means you don't claim to know for sure, as opposed to someone who is "gnostic" and does claim to know for sure. There are agnostic atheists and agnostic theists, as well as gnostic atheists and gnostic theists.'

If Job is your favorite book you need a new favorite book. I could make several suggestions but you're probably just going to read Harry Potter anyway. At least now that you're an atheist you won't have to burn the book for it's heretical depiction of witchcraft.
I have also been through this, I wouldn't call myself atheist, I'm more of an agnostic. But, I've grown up in a Christian family and found myself in an argument with an evolutionist. We were debating over the existence of God. He soon proved me wrong on every argument I presented (this obviously doesn't mean much, because I'm no expert.) I was devastated, I no longer knew what to believe. I prayed about things and received no perceivable answer. I'm still not entirely sure what to believe, I find myself almost wanting God to exist, but the scientific evidence strongly suggests that he doesn't. I'm posting this in your forum because I also have no-one else to tell.
Same here. I looked for a reason to believe in god, didn't find one. I went atheist. To the OP, I would try to find what you believe, and find facts to back you up. Then, tell your family. They will love you no matter what.

I just said that wasn't the reason, that would be stupid, There is no evidence of a deity, and evoloution has too many what ifs?
I have actually had a couple of years to think about this, another reason could be i've never "felt" god there, I've always been alone, (that sound way too dramatic, its not meant that way) my mum and alot of other people always talk about how they can feel god intervene, Ive never felt any of that.

So if God gave you evidence, visible proof that he existed, you would? Even Jesus said that if the dead were raised from the grave before their eyes, they still would not believe. What about the world around you? What about the sciences around you? If you don't believe in evolution, then what do you believe? Are you definitely sure that just because their is no scientific evidence of existence that you don't believe, or has something hardened your heart from him?
Don't take this as an offensive but it is an excuse a lot of people use and God himself said that people would say this. Peter couldn't believe he was walking on water, people couldn't believe Jesus made the lame walk and blind see, and people couldn't believe He rose from the dead. God ravaged the Egyptians and they still didn't have faith.
It is not a common thing to question the evidence, but maybe you are looking in the wrong place for it?

So God did an inb4 and as a result we can't use it as a reason to not believe in him?
Too many 'what ifs'.... Care to point them out, if you'd be so kind?
The universe began, it appears to be 'fine-tuned' for our existence. If certain physical properties were minutely different, even by about one in ten to the power of sixty, we would not be here. This is about the accuracy needed to hit a square inch target on the other side of the observable universe. The physical constants and laws of nature, like Baby Bear's bed and porridge, are 'just right' for us. Plus people are always finding ancient animals with flesh still on the bones.
Atheism is based around the word Theism which means a belief in a supernatural being or a god, it could be any amount of gods, that is he only requirement for something to be classed as Theism, you don't have to be part of a particular religion to be classed as a Theist as long as you have belief in a god in part of that religion. The ancient greeks were the first to coin the term Atheism and simply the A is Negating the Theism, to the ancient greeks Atheism meant Godless or without God. But how is Atheism defined today? There is a huge misunderstanding of what Atheism actually means, Atheism today is defined as a Lack of Belief in something which is more or less what the Greeks said GodLess Without god. But Nowadays we accept 2 types, theres the type you are familiar with which we call 'Strong Atheism' and the type you might not be familiar with which is 'Weak Atheism'. Strong Atheism is the complete Opposite of Theism it is defined as Believing that there is no god it is saying I have a reason to believe that there is absoloutley no way theres a god. And weak atheism is alot ore common and alot simpler it simply says that its the rejection of the claim that one particular claim which is that a god exists. They simply say i have no reason to believe that therefore i'm not a theist its not saying theres no way thats true or I refuse to believe that and theres no way that could possibly be true It simply means i am going to with hold judgement on this and i don't believe yet I might someday and i might not someday but you have to prove it.
There you go, now you all know what Atheism and Theism is, I do enjoy reading these things :smile.gif:!
You're wrong. 'Strong Atheism' and 'Weak Atheism' are just made up terms for people who don't know what words mean.

So because it required things it happen in a certain order, it can't be true?
Not to mention... what does 'how the universe was made' from Nat Geo have anything to do with evolution?
The universe began, it appears to be 'fine-tuned' for our existence.
The universe isn't 'fine-tuned' to our existence. We're fine-tuned to it's existence. That's the whole concept behind evolution. We evolved to better survive in the environment we inhabit.

I would accept that maybe something has hardened my heart, and if I saw Jesus rise from the grave I would convert instantly. I really wish I could believe, the people I know seem so happy with him.
Hey, if one of the gods gave me physical visible proof, I'd instantly convert.
It's just that it'll never happen.
Look down and around and you will see evidence. My belief is that He created all of the things around us for us. We have manipulated it all as we see fit. If you believe that God did not create all of this, then more power to you.

Dude, he already has. He rose and conquered the grave. Before you quit, truly try to reconnect with God. If you truly knew how God created this "Religion", you would realize it is not so much one, but a relationship.
No more need for this debate either. I have told you the best that I can of why things are. If you still wish to convert, God Bless.

Well, Life changed to live in the universe. So, We made ourselves "just right" for the for the universe. Also, You are thinking of natural mummification. Mummification stops the rot. You should Google anything you do not understand from now on. :smile.gif:

Can't we ignore all the people acting silly and try to figure out why this guy doesn't believe in evolution??
I just said that wasn't the reason, that would be stupid, There is no evidence of a deity, and evoloution has too many what ifs?

Not an inb4, but a "I'm calling it". He didn't say we couldn't not believe. He gave you the choice. Your choice is your belief.
