I think there's an important distinction between saying something like "Proud to be an American" and "Black Pride." Saying you're proud of being American is idiotic, because you don't choose which country you live in, and simply being American has no positive value. The difference with Black Pride (at least in America), is that blacks are an oppressed people, so they are saying they are proud of being black in a society where being black is considered wrong.
This has so many problems with it I don't even know where to begin. So I won't. I don't have the time. =(
Basically, both are really the same thing.
Wrong. That possibly has even more problems than the post you quoted.

When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. I don't want your damn lemons! I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!
Not really. There are no degrees and institutions only for white students in the United States for example. And I need not remind you who the president is.
When the post has been +1'd, it's safe to assume he was saying that blacks and americans are the same, which isn't true.
EDIT: Nevermind, it was the concept he was talking about.

If we was born in the south with two black parents it wouldn't have been an issue, his parents moving around a lot and spending some of his youth not in America is where questions started to appear. And the fact that he didn't reveal it straight away when asked.
Yes, but he showed his birth certificate. The questions really should have stopped there.
As for the things you posted I skimmed it and will read it fully later, it seems to ignore how all the statistics are against the black community in America when it comes to crime and financial and social stability/responsibility.
Why do you think the statistics are against the black community? It's because blacks are economically and socially oppressed. Why do you think they commit more crime? It's because they are forced to by their economic status.

It's like a circle-jerk of family values, Christianity and nationalism.
Britain has a much better culture than America. The only good stuff we have as TV series are Battlestar: Galactica and Star Trek.

I find it amusing that people here can't see how others could take pride in something they were born into but, could easily see how someone could take pride in a sports team that none of the players probably grew up in your hometown and yet people will easily get freaked out about it.
I am proud of my country because we stand for individualism over collectivism, freedom of speech even if I don't want to hear it (for the most part), and for being a place that one baby isn't better than another one solely because of who their parents were. Considering how many first world countries don't have all three of these I am proud that I live in a country like that.
You can argue people in circles about whether those things truly exist in a country. But, saying that I actually believe they do, can you see how I would be proud?
Oh no, I see why people can take pride in it, I just don't think it has really valid reasons.
To me, pride should be something you'd feel for building a model airplane, or saving a baby from a burning house. I don't see how a person can feel pride for something that is as impersonal (dunno if this is the right word, having trouble putting my thoughts in text form) as your country or race.
See, I could understand how becoming an American citizen when coming from another country could cause pride. I'd feel that too. But, I didn't DO anything to be an American. I didn't even "join" or "sign up" for anything. I just happened to be born here and I have no reason to leave.
Thanks for your response though. I'm trying to understand.

Americans actually have worse teeth than British people.
Other ethnic groups have started in the same situation and achieved more, asian americans for example. They arrived with nothing and now are the highest average earners in the United States.
Don't be an idiot, they arrived with hammers to build our railroads.

My ancestors were part of a fledgling kingdom that threatened to take control of central Europe until a few traitors dogs decided to help some filthy Russians push us over (historical racism, LOL) so I'm proud of them.
It's like a son being proud of his father: he didn't do anything his dad did, but he can still be proud knowing that's his father and that he can continue in his footsteps and do something his dad might be proud of.

And get no credit for it, once the railroads were finished and the photo of the workers was taken only white workers were invited for the photo.
Don't be ridiculous. Asians don't show up on film. Like vampires.

That's the man I got it from ahahaha good eye man. But he actually said on the Opie and Anthony show to Patrice O Neal "Because white people rule everything... and black people steal" lmao it was hilarious. A joke of course because Patrice laughed his ass off. I'll post the video if I find it.
Haha, thought so.
Is that the one where he talks about him being from Mexico or something? I think I've seen it before.

I disagree, If you consider American Pride Idiotic then Black Pride is equally so. Blacks were Opressed, and if you say that they're still discriminated against then yes, but so are every other race, depending on the location. Being Black is not considered wrong, at least not in any place in the US that I've been in.
You also say that American Pride is idiotic because you don't choose the country you were born in. You don't choose your skin color either.
lol okay

FFS, I am obviously wonderful.
No, they are basically the same concept.
If you want the full list: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack
Yes, the list is somewhat radical, and I in know way agree with all of it, but more than half of the things on the list are true.
If you want s specific example: Why is Obama's birth certificate in question at all? No white president has had his birth status questioned.

Pride in your country or local area is one thing. Pride in your ethnicity is another. One is useful and constructive. The other is not.
My humble LPs can be found here.

It still depends on the people. I know southerners who are tolerant of other races just fine. Of course, it is worse in the South, but still.
