My opinion on copyright infringement on YouTube is that these companies (such as the WMG, Viacom, whatever...) need to get the hell off YouTube. Those YouTubers aren't stealing from you, or asking for money, they just want a laugh. What's wrong with that? What, every time you see copyrighted footage on the internet, do you contract some sort of disease, with the only cure being to get the video off of YouTube?
Go away. Give us our freedom of speech back. The slogan is "Broadcast Yourself". That's what we're doing. We're simply doing it in a different method because not all of us have cameras or microphones or any of that stuff. Whoever came up with Bill S.978 should be slapped across the face. We're doing nothing wrong. Leave us alone.
I hate it. I get that it's copyrighted material, but if anything its the BEST WAY FOR FREE ADVERTISING. You have a song in the background "Oh hey whats that song?" and they go buy it. Or if they don't buy it then they pirate it, which ISN'T LOST SALES because people who pirate weren't going to buy it anyway, that's why they're pirating it. So really, using a song can only help a company, maybe not very much, maybe a ton, but it can only help. The only reason a song should be taken down is if its playing and the video poster adds in 'dis song is shyt **** u dis ting sucks balls dont lissen 2 it' because that could potentially ruin the chances of sales, and since its copyrighted by the companies, it should benefit the companies in some way.
I dunno if I explained that right :tongue.gif:
While Bill S.978 is a completely different fault, of the government, to be exact. The companies can give specific permission to uploaders, and hopefully they will. Songs, however, is a liable infringement of copyright. Watching someone else play a game is fine. There is no harm done, as you are not doing what you would do if you had made a transaction to buy the game. However, you are listening to the music for free on a video. What would you be doing if you had bought it? The same thing.

Notch said that he's going to allow videos to be posted of Minecraft if that bill gets passed. And as for music, I agree if you just post the song and its music video or something, because that's specifically the song and people will come and only use that, rather than buying. BUT if it's just in the background of one of your videos, there's really no reason to mark it for copyright, it's free advertisement. People aren't going to keep coming back to a video with a song in the background, it would get annoying to have to do that, because the song wouldn't be the main focus so maybe they can't hear it as well over another sound. Then they will either go buy the song, or pirate it. Either way it adds publicity to the music. Hey look, that kid pirated that song, now hes showing that song to his friends, and his friends are good kids so they don't pirate it and buy it. Boom. Either way If something is pirated it's not a lost sale, because chances are, if they were willing to pay for it, they wouldn't have pirated it.
So I think posting music videos/music should be against copyright, but just using a portion of a song or using a song in the background of a video does no harm.
EDIT: Even if a song is on youtube, most of the time the person will go about pirating/buying it anyway, I don't want to have to go to youtube everytime I want to listen to music.

Agreed, doing something like including a song in a YouTube video doesn't hurt record labels or artists in any way. If anything, it just serves as free advertising for the artist. I personally believe that all music should be free, though, and instead suggest a donation directly to the artist. Record labels are destroying the music industry.
