What do you guys think happens after death? (I know like 90% of this forum is Atheist so there probably isn't going to be much discussion other than 'Nothing will happen')
I'm a Christian, but I like to believe there is always other options. I'm not deeply religious, but according to my religious friends if you believe in God, your a Christian, so I guess I am. But I have to doubt Heaven and Hell. Heaven can only be this amazing glorious place for a short amount of time, if it's perfect, then what is there worth your time? You'll just be stuck in a place where you can get anything and have no motivation no reason to keep going, it would become hell if you spent eternity in heaven. I mean, the drive for humanity is essentially death, or struggle; unless there's a completely different drive in the afterlife and we no longer keep the 'human-mindset' then maybe heaven would be the greatest thing.
Actually, rather than a discussion about what you believe is in the afterlife, how about, what do you want to happen after death?
I'm sure a lot of people will base that off thier beliefs, but I, for one, want to be reborn on another Earth in a parallel universe, and then when I die there, I am reborn onto this Earth that we know of now. Either that or I want reincarnation. Anything eternal, whether good or bad kind of scares me, so I'm a little queasy about Heaven and Hell.
Uhh, I don't see how atheism can relate to the afterlife, but whatever.
I don't believe in an afterlife, though if I had an afterlife it would be a mix of dragon ball z and Valhalla :smile.gif:

This is a signature to expand my post to which it doesn't look like a gap between posts. It's an eyesore to me somehow.
I wanna be reborn in Earth, I mean, unless it's all apocalyptic.
I just wanna keep tracking this planet, see how it evolves, and enjoy it's latest inventions.
I don't think the average 80 years of living are merely enough to satisfy with.

Seeing as Atheists don't believe in the after life, I was expecting a lot of "nothing will happen" comments, haha. But nice :tongue.gif:
I believe that "life" is an abstract concept invented by man to describe certain chains of chemical reactions. As such, what happens after "life" is the absence of these chemical reactions. The consciousness and individuality of a person dies completely.
If I were allowed to choose an afterlife, I would choose the Buddhist concept of Karma and reincarnation. People are reincarnated based on how they acted in this life. If they were greedy they would be reincarnated as a homeless person. If they were kind they would be reincarnated in the upper-class. If they burned ants with a magnifying glass they would be reincarnated as an ant, etc. To end the cycle of reincarnation, a person must become a monk and pursue enlightenment.
If there is a plane of existence where the "enlightened" live, some parallel to heaven, I think it would be like powder skiing. Like a constant floating sensation with sparkling white all around.

This enlightening post brought to you courtesy of a serious overabundance of free time.
I have a theory that heaven is just like earth but has most of the annoying stuff gone, but you can still be entertained in all ways as you can on earth.
i think what would happen is a perfect life no crimes no drugs just happyness i dont no if its like 24/7 praise the lord or anything like that if it was i would be okay with it i think my mom once said that its not 24/7 parsing the lord.....
Your skepticism of heaven and hell is based on a misrepresentation of those concepts, so I can understand why you don't believe in them. There's better theories floating about regarding what it's "like."
In reality nothing happens. If I had a choice I would still choose nothing. Every journey must end. Life is wonderful, death is peaceful, only the transition is hard.
I was like 95% sure a million people would say 'nothing will happen' because just about everyone on these boards are atheists.. but people, think of the question more as what do you want to happen after death? I'm sure all of you atheists are still going to say 'I want nothing to happen' but like me, I'm a Christian and I'm still looking at other things I would want to happen. I'm not gonna go 'durr I want to go to heaven' just because I'm Christian. Put a little creativity into what you guys think of. THINK LIKE A SCIENTOLOGIST :smile.gif:
