Just joking. "He" is used until the gender of the person is known because, lets face the facts, boys are a lot more common than girls on the internet. And there's a grammatical explanation behind all of it, but I'm not sure what it is exactly.
The grammatical explanation is that for centuries, we've been ruled and taught language skills by chauvinists. That's why we always say "He". Or at least that's what I think.
Some people refer to me as 'he', but all the moderators and admins refer to me as 'she', because I really am female. Yes, I am a female gamer, and moderator. I defy all steroetypes. :happy.gif: (Since 1996)
solution: make me a sandwich, any kind of sandwich, and post a picture of it in this thread. once you do, i will then have no reasons to believe anything other than your gender being female

It takes two hands to make you a sandwich, but only one finger to give you a permaban.

"He" is standard because for centuries all writing only referred to males because males were the only sex relevant to art, philosophy, religion, politics, economics, or anything else that would be written about at the time.
Now there's a movement to avoid using masculine pronouns in writing, which is a good thing, but it's a bit clumsy. Typically you have to say "he or she" or "him or her".

well the problem is that anyone oould easily google a picture of a sandwich and call it their own... either way i'm still on the fence about believing GIRLS actually play video games :tongue.gif:

I know how this must make me seem like a chauvinist pig, but I think that's a bit stupid.

Well, I'm comfortable where I am with English at the moment, so I'd be very hard to break out of using "He" as a default. If I were to learn another language or I was taught English that way, I'm sure I'd think it was fine. English is a habit I'm very stubborn on. I would probably use "They/them" before "He or She" I just don't like that bit of doubt that "He or She" puts forward.
But if that's the way they're teaching kids, that's pretty good.

Well, I imagine you as a supercomputer.
You have no gender.

"Them/they" sounds too impersonal "It" is rude and possibly sexist if you're
oversensitive. It'll happen, not much you can do about it.

... Hm. I'd still use two. One in a picture PM'd before hand, and the other perma banning...
