So basically what's going on in my understanding is that the union at Canada Post, in Canada (duh), wants more money, so they are going on strike this Thursday night. I personally think that the union receives enough money already for delivering mail (Surprisingly more than lots of other jobs), and that by going on strike, people are going to have to find alternatives to using mail, and when they return from striking, the industry will be dead, and lose lots of business, as people will have to use alternatives.
What do you guys think? Keep in mind these factors:
-These are Canadian wages and may be different from elsewhere in the world
-My opinion is coming from me, a 14-year old kid, excuse me if I missed some important details about this
I actually wasn't aware of this, seeing as we still receive mail :ohmy.gif:
I'm not exactly sure what to think of it, as I don't know much of the circumstances :s

Well if it's just Canada Post doing this than you would probably still get mail from Purolator or something.. I think probably

Please correct any spelling or grammatical I make.
i think unions are greatly abused. postal workers get paid a lot as it is, they shouldnt being striking and causing problems to increase their pay more. i support unions to keep people from being fired unfairly, but this is abuse.
They're making pretty good money already. If anything, the government should be annoyed at them for being so slow at it :dry.gif:. They're making about $50,000 per year which is pretty decent for just a letter carrier, and the managers/office jobs can be between $80,000 - $100,000. Source HereAnd Here
looked to me like you were taking a stab at making fun of how unnecessary you view the postal system is, so i was making fun of that in similar manner that shows that we currently cant ditch it.
That's a valid assumption but I was actually attempting to make fun of society and how we've all adapted to the digital world IE "What is a postal service?".
i dont really see any posts to warrant that conclusion. nobody mentioned anything about the digital world. they are all in reference to he postal service.
with that aside, I think this strike is both dumb and redundant, Postal Workers are already paid quite a nickel and even though I support Unions and their endeavors I don't really see the point of this Union's activity.
Mail carriers walk more miles than you could ever dream of. You're posting on the Minecraft forum right now.
Walk? Where on earth do you live? Where I am in Canada, mail carriers will buy a nice car, and have maintenance and gas paid for. The only walking is to get out of their car if they didn't pull close enough to the mailbox
Way back when in America there was something called the "pullman strike", where the people that run the trains went on strike. That basically shut down the country as trains were super important back then, so the government ordered the train companies to carry US mail and then sent in the troops on the strikers for not delivering US mail.
Moral of the story: Just send in the troops (or whatever you guys have up there, mounties on a moose?).

We don't use moose anymore after the incident back in '04. We use normal horses now. They get more kilometers to the gallon, and are much more people-friendly than moose.
Well you read mine. Do you have absolutely no sense of humour what-so-ever? Topic is about postal workers going on strike - where I introduced my satirical post about emails.
You must be an Easterner then (I kid, I kid), I'm from small city Saskatchatoon where all the mail carriers actually carry their mail.
i thought i did, but nobody else seems to think so. anyway. the distances in many parts of us and canada are rather large, so theres a lot of trucks employed to deliver mail to those areas. our postal workers dont walk.

same here. i once got a package almost a week after i was wanting it, after paying for faster shipping. the reason? postal worker chucked it out of his truck and it landed in a patch of tall grass. i would have appreciated some care with my package, and some placement where i would notice it, not happen to run across it by chance. i question whether or not he even stopped, as i find it hard for someone to stop 4 feet from my driveway and then aim to toss it in grass.
we should pay similar wages to people whos job is to make the internet secure. then we can email documents and print them without fear of stolen info. added bonus: less internet viruses.

In the end, it won't last long...

who is going to deliver your legal papers?

Kinda like what happened to Pittsburgh's Steel Industry.
Except China can't do anything about it...

I don't know what you're doing, but I fill mine up on regular. Regular gas, that is.
