You're a mathematician. What's a fraction of infinity? Immortality with naps seems like the best of both worlds to me.
A fraction of infinity is a misunderstanding of what I said. Taking naps, even an infinite number of them, would accomplish nothing with an infinite amount of waking time. It wouldn't reduce the amount of time you consciously experience in the slightest, so why bother? It's impossible to waste time when time has ceased to be a finite resource.
In one century, American culture alone has invented more things to do than a single person would be able to sample in a lifetime. There's a whole planet of things I'd need 10,000 lifetimes to truly appreciate, and once I set off into the great unknown, there will be that many more.
Don't confuse "large but finite" with "infinite". They're not even remotely similar. The universe is large, but finite. It will necessarily contain only a finite number of possible states.
I disagree with your pessimistic observation
You misspelled "realistic".
base this disagreement on the unpredictable genius of human creativity. 10 years ago, we couldn't play Minecraft. 100 years ago, we couldn't fly into space. 1000 years ago, we persecuted scientists who had the nerve to say the Earth wasn't the center of the universe.
See "the universe is finite" above.
You took the condescending one.
Says the one calling everyone else a pessimist. There's lots of great things one might do and be entertained for a long time. My contention is that it could not possibly last forever. My point has always been to illustrate the distinction between "large but finite" and "infinite", the latter of which is how I interpret immortal.
demonstrated "mathematically" by writing the same symbol over and over and over again until you died - and still not getting it all on paper
No, this wouldn't demonstrate the concept of eternity. It doesn't even come close. I will not claim to comprehend infinity; I'm human, that's well outside of my capacity. What I do understand is the distinction between finite and infinite and I also understand that the number of things you could possibly do is necessarily finite. Even if you decided to do something like list all the prime numbers, you would eventually reach a point at which you would be unable to continue simply because it would no longer be possible to represent the numbers within the universe.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.

My argument has consistently been that waking time has many possibilities. The point would be that consciousness is not a bad thing - it has, in fact, treated me very well over the years.

I'm guessing that your favorite numeral system is "binary".
"Are these math jokes doing anything for you?"
At no point have I applied this label to everyone, and at no point have I implied that pessimists lack understanding on the topic because of their pessimism, only that they have filtered their understanding of the topic through their pessimism. I'm not even saying it as an insult, merely as an explanation. Whatever happened to "you take the good with the bad"? I'm curious to know why immortality is 100% bad because you'll only have a mathematically finite amount of centuries where you'll enjoy it?
There are people who refuse to fly in airplanes because "they might crash", despite the statistically low amount of times that happens. People avoid eating delicious food because it might kill them decades from now. There are people who think falling in love isn't worth it because you'll eventually get your heart broken. And now, there are people who think 100,000 years of kicking ass would be totally pointless, because you might have to cope with eternal boredom afterward. These people are, by very definition, pessimists. It's not a racial slur, and it's not an insult - it's the actual word for people who hyper-focus on the bad side of things.
And of course pessimists think they're "realists". Nobody thinks they're not being realistic.

Then explain this: the hypothetical universe we're speaking of, allows for immortality - an infinite source of life. In this universe, therefore, infinity has become a possibility. As I stated once before, I'm not that special, so if I have immortality, then other people do - and possibly other things. For this argument to remain consistent, one must also accept a universe where infinity applying to other things is a possibility.

If you're Immortal, does that give you Infinite time, or just Eternity? Wait, are those the same things or not?
It's a big decision, and a big risk. There are a lot of things you or I may consider worse than death, and with Sod's Law in full effect of both Eternity and Infinity, It'll be sure to happen.
I guess I'd only know If I were actually given the choice. Probably Yes, but Probably No.
even though I fml almost daily, facepalm (facesmack) almost daily, I want to be immortal.
I wanna see how humans evolve as time goes by, how the world evolves.

However, it would be nice to have a suicide option so that one day i can kill myself before i go insane... if it comes to that...
ya i saw that comming so i got out yesterday
