I'm interested to think what yall think is the best science fiction series. There are the obvious choices like Star Trek TNG, Farscape, Stargate SG1, and Firefly but I would also include some anime series like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun as well as perhaps more fantasy like shows, since most people consider Supernatural and Angel to be scifi (I myself don't think fantasy belongs anywhere near scifi, but most people disagree)
But my personal favorite is Sliders. The acting and plot can be kinda bad at times, and the science isn't the greatest, but it has an amazing format that allows for social analysis. They explored misogyny by going to a world where men are discrimated against, for example. I'm also pretty biased, since I used to watch hours of this show every day with my dad when I was younger and it has a unique nostalgia to me.
It was a very sad day when Star Trek stopped having new shows. And when SG: Atlantis was cancelled.
Now apparently the demographic calls for terrible shows that mimic BSG - like Stargate Universe. Seriously, who can honestly say that they like over-the-top drama and sob stories in a sci-fi show? Sci-fi is supposed to be escapism with a side of moderate drama and cool ideas. That show was such a failure that I as a long-time Stargate fan refuse to acknowledge it's additions to stargate Canon. Good riddance that it got cancelled, it most certainly deserves it.
Don't even get me started about all those ghost shows and those strange paranormal-oriented 'sci-fi' shows - I'm pretty much convinced that Sci-Fi has died.

I know, right? I honestly wonder how execs can approve shows like SGU when they are so obviously stupid. I mean, how many fans do you know that actually LIKED it?
Anyway, for me it's hard to say between Star Trek: TNG and Stargate: SG1, but I'd probably say SG1.
The old Stargate shows may have been cliqued, cheesy, and predictable at times, but they were still awesome. Stargate Universe would have survived if they involved the replicators and cut the drama by 75%.
TNG and Voyager - two of the greatest works of Sci-Fi ever made.

I adore TNG as well. I hated Voyager, to be honest. D:

Eh, Voyager did push it with the cheesiness a few times. The attempts at having romances between characters failed horribly, but other than that it was a nice plot and it had a few 'shining' episodes.
DS9 was focused less on exploration but it was actually pretty good too. All of the characters were fantastically acted.

I've never watched DS9... I've never even seen it on, like, ever. Voyager really pushed my buttons when I watched a few episodes. The first one I saw was apparently one of the early ones, and the alien race and the normal crew had just boarded the "broken down ship" and of course their supplies were stretched thin, and I immediately thought how overdone that was and hoped the show didn't continue like that. Then they introduced the "bestest engineer evar<3" into the show and I just wanted to puke. The whole "You are amazing undiscovered talent and it just so happens you are on a ship that needs it" is so annoying. I'm tired of seeing absurdly capable engineers. I only watched two episodes and gave up on it.
If we're on the subject of Star Trek, I'd say DS9 and Star Trek: Enterprise were the worst. Both were horribly boring the majority of the time, and were started in too close of a time period. The great thing about TNG was that it was a new, fresh outlook on the series long after the original was cancelled. If they had spaced out the airing of the shows, they could have done a lot better, and focused on them more.
TNG is the best Star Trek series. I'm halfway through Enterprise, and so far it's decent. I'm not so sure about Scott Bakula as Captain. He's got nothing on Stewart.
I haven't watched much of DS9 or Voyager. So I can't really pass any judgement on them.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -Carl Sagan
The Universe is cool enough without making up crap about it - Phil Plait
i like TNG and voyager, and i don't care much for enterprise or TOS, never saw DS9.
i also like BSG, it's a great story about a the last remains of humanity trying to find a mythical place called "earth" while also running from killer machines. I could do without so much drama. a little drama, but just less.
also, question. Is there a place to watch star trek online? I have been moving away from cable and towards streaming.
