Obama officially supports the protesters. Hopefully it's a good call.
Of course it's just a political call, I doubt he has any moral reasons to support them.
Honestly expected him to support the current regime, since they're pro-West. Guess he expects them to win and wants on their good side.
or he honestly thinks that 30 years is way to long for a president to be in power, or even be considered a democratic president anymore. although i do think he did wait to see where this was going.

looks like google picked their side. bringing tweeting back to the Egyptian people, no internet required! proof
I have always liked Google, use many of the things they make, but this... wow...
I think Google have done more for the internet than any other company.
Didn't google do something about not censoring searching in China anymore for things like the Tienanmen Square protests and stuff like that at one point? Yet another way google shows it's support of democracy/freedom of information.
I agree, google is pretty awesome. Not to mention how much fun the 'I'm feeling lucky' button is.
i just turned on Al Jezeera (international news network of those who don't know) and it looks Egypt has fallen into total chaos when the pro-Mubarak mob showed up and started throwing rocks and injured hundreds.

this is interesting, pro-Mubarak protesters are throwing Molotov cocktails onto the anti-Mubarak protesters. in response, anti-Mubarak protesters are shining powerful green lasers to blind them.

Honestly, I would have remained neutral had I been in Obama's position. I don't think this will end well.
he can support the protesters, democracy, but also show how he will backstab allies once it looks like a more democratic rebellion is succeeding.
he can remain neutral and receive some hate for not doing anything, but this option carries the least political damage imo.
or he can support the current regime and show that he stands by his allies, but not his principles. but that option is long gone now.
It's pretty much exclusively the regime's bakcers doing the violence. The protestors are pretty much entirely peaceful. They won't back off, they've invested too much in this already. Days without food or rest, they arent' going to stop until the regime is toppled....or their dead.
The guy's been sitting around in office for 30 years. More than a dozen have been killed. It's a riot but I support it. The protesters need to be better organized against the supporters. The supporters have machine guns.

it was not a riot till the pro-presidential supporters showed up, conveniently trained in crowd control whipping from horse/camel back, and throwing molotov cocktails.

Of course they are, they're sick of having a huge gap between both social classes (fifthly rich, or extreme poverty)
plus Egypt gets from the Suez Canal about 1.3 billion dollar each day, where does it go? It is a mystery. You want to force them to tell you where? They get your head, for free.
Mubarak has stepped down as president. while the life footage may look like more rioting, I am pretty sure they are celebrating. (confirmed: it's celebration)
grats Egypt.

Yeah, "they did it," they got a military government.
If the source of this upheaval is economic, and it most certainly is, then the handing of power to the military will prove to have one purpose and one purpose only: suppress the strikes, suppress the rebellion, maintain the mode of accumulation.
Best way to **** somebody, even the collective somebody, up is to give him/her exactly what he/she thinks he/she wants.
that is completely not true. the military supports the people, you can tell by the fact that this has not turned into a bloodbath. the military will just maintain some order while a new government is being put in place. the alternative is anarchy, and that would be worse.

Getting rid of one ruler for another, nothing much gonna come out of this. There was a small chance at some real change, but it looks like that's not gonna happen.
