I don't want get involved. We've got our **** in enough countries as it is. **** Egypt, let them sort it out themselves.
You're right, we should just let a geopolitically significant country just "sort it's self out." Plus, it's not like those people matter, they're not even American. Sheesh, what are we thinking...
This is ********!
We go to help countries, and people ***** at us.
Now I want us to stay out of something, and I'm being bitched at.
We aren't the world police. They need to handle their own **** once in a while, at least.

It's worth noting though that while I'd rather we not get involved with this, the U.S. most likely will if it gets any worse. We have a lot of assets in Egypt, such as oil and access to the Suez canal.
Do you have any idea what the current wave of revolutions is about? At all?
It's about citizens overthrowing president dictators. It has absolutely nothing to do with religion or jihads. Christ.
Oh I do know.
But what do you think will happen if instead of the current president some muslim radical gets elected.
Those people are poor, riled up, angry...and theres alot of them.

Yep, because the only thing worse than a western-backed dictator is a freely-elected dictator.

You're right, we should start another war while we're sorting out the one in the upper middle east and get bitched at by the UN and the rest of the world for being nosy! Sheesh, what were we thinking....
I haven't the slightest clue what going on in Egypt. I never have time to watch any news except weather reports because of all the homework they give me in school. Funny, they're always telling me it's important to keep up with events, but then they give me shitloads of stuff to do at home...

Same here. I never do it, but my school has a great policy of homework only counts as 25 percent of grades. So I do good on tests and class work and do a bit of homework and get a B+.
Good for Egypt. I hope they succeed. The US should not try to help though, we would mess it up.
its not like that, there are sympathetic police and even military. just like there are citizens that support the government, there are military that support the people. but the sympathetic military is not there to put down the citizens, they are there to keep them safe, and stop looters.

It's not your job to stick your nose in other's business, and infact before 1940 we held a very strong policy of isolationism. Let them sort it out, they didn't ask for our help, we're hardly alligned, and the last thing we want to make is another threat in the middle east. Should we help, and they lose, and they probably will, we'll lose our strongest "ally" in the middle east. Infact, we probably won't intervene unless there are human rights violations, and it won't be us, it'll be the U.N.

I support them myself, but I also realize that revolutions and major changes by force are very hard to do in the post-modern world.
The only reason USA was really able to do it was cause there was a huge ocean dividing the UK and the colonies, and no one else had all too much interest *there was some but not too much.*
The fact that Egypt tries to do this is great, but if they form a infant government, they need to quickly *incredibly quickly* make proper defense for themselves, as the local governments in that area *as we all know* would not be all too supportive of these actions, and might do something that will put them in a place that was worse than before.
They just need to be really careful, and somehow muster the help of a larger state that is willing to help them.
I'm going to correct you because I'm an asshole.
Technically the American Revolution isn't post modern. We didn't have effective bombs, teargas, automatic weapons.. etc. Also, the world was watching us, we were setting the stage for numerous revolutions in British Colonies. The military and government in Egypt, and a whole lot of unstable countries, aren't aligned. They're two separate entities. So defenses are either none or all depending on the stance of the army.
Mubarak has to be blind of he think this will end with anything less than his (and anyone close to him) resignation. i pretty sure they are past the point of no return.

There have been a growing number of reports of looters/thugs conducting smash and grabs across Cairo. Interestingly, there's also a growing number of reports that when these thugs are caught, they have police/interior ministry identification on them. If this is so, the reasons for it are:
1. It tars the insurgency as a group of criminals and thugs.
2. It provides a reason for a reluctant army to get involved and enact a curfew.
3. It forces a percentage of the movement to stay at home (to guard the neighborhood).
This above has the potential to set the stage for a harsh response domestically. It could also help provide cover to the regime globally (hitting the Egyptian Museum was smart in this respect, given how many people around the world care much more for the artifacts there than the freedom of 80 m Egyptians).
The question is: will it work? A decade ago, certainly. Today? No way. Too much backchannel.
As expected, the government is causing disorder and chaos, while the private sector is forming voluntary procective groups to contain it. Same thing happens in the United States, like after Katrina.
As an egyptian ( born and raised their) i fully encourage the revolt/revolution/ Protest what ever you want to call it. And the Dirty Faggot policemen who have killed and looted and the other not only the police men i hope each and every one of them go to hell for their reward.
People actually still live in Egypt? Excuse my ignorance in this subject, but what the crap? I can imagine Egypt being one of the worst places to live besides Antarctica or Iraq. The only good thing Egypt does is tourist attractions.

Er. I can think of hundreds of places worse than Egypt. Egypt is very modern.. I don't see how you could think that.

Best of luck to them. It's only a shame that not enough Americans see our own President for the beast he truly is.
