Zombies would survive for about 2 months because the reason why we are ontop of the food chain is we have firepower and medicines. What do zombies have? Bacteria, no weapons of any sort so no protection. Animals would attack them for food and the bacteria would wipe all of them out.
That article, as I have said before, ignores several aspects of zombies that make them at least somewhat formidable.
Predators: Zombie flesh is toxic under the Max Brooks mythos*, and almost every living being has evolved to avoid Zeds.
Bacteria: See above. This includes microorganisms.
Zombies also have the protection of being dangerous until the brain is destroyed. You try shooting a moving target the size of a human head at any reasonable distances, it's bloody difficult. Now factor in fatigue (both mental and phsyical), scarcity of ammunition, weapon malfunctions, and just generally being surrounded by walking corpses.
*Brooks's zeds are almost identical to Romero's zeds, and generally the two of them are considered the authority on zombies by everyone I've asked.
