If you don't want to quit, it's most likely not going to last. If you do want to quit, then you're already past the hardest part two weeks in. The hardest part is the ten - thirty hours after your last smoke.

If you're anythin like me, trust, you'll still want to smoke five months from now. The only thing that garuntees success for me is remembering why I quit and why I don't want to smoke, as well as always having a subtitute outlet of some kind 24/7.
Can't stress the importance of a go-to subtitute for nicotine. Endorphines or something. Run until your lungs hurt. Go swimming. Down a glass of water against the clock. Paint a picture. Sing the HIMYM theme song. Stand on your ****in' head. Meditate. Whatever. Don't think about smoking. Hell, if it helps, bolster your ego and be arrogant about being a non-smoker. Shoo away your roommates and eat organic fruits in front of them. Meh. Do what you can.
Ive been trying to quit for like 2 weeks now. I'm 20 years old, I live with a few roomies, but I still keep in contact with my moms. My moms keeps trying to get me to quit so I finally gave in. So now I hate to ***** to you guys but figured Id ask, Ive stopped for bout 2 weeks, my Moms. Hasn't even acknowledged that I quit. So I keep asking myself why I gave it up. I'm thinking of starting up again cause its something I really enjoyed doing and the only reason I really stopped was to try to make my moms happy. All my roomies smoke so Its real ****ing hard seeing them light up while I'm trying to quit. Its a generally shitty thing to try to do for someone who doesn't seem to give a ****.
So what do you guys think? Should I keep trying to quit or go back to it.

I'm 14, and I personally will tell you, I did puff a cigarette. Why? Because I was curious. 1st off: how the **** did you get addicted to it? tastes like ****. Left a bad taste in my mouth for DAYS. =/ 2ndly, it also does not seem so "addicting" since I smoked 3 cigarettes and never got addicted. =/
It will make you feel like **** for 3 days. If you survive the 3rd day without smoking one cigarette, then you officially have quit, as you will no longer feel effects and your brain no longer feels as if it needs it. During the 3 day period when you feel like **** because of not having nicotine, find something to do, i.e. play minecraft to keep you occupied - you'll damn well need it. Don't smoke one. This will also help your budget, too. Prepare yourself for some mental and physical consequences during the 3 days, too.
Other than this, keep trying! Don't think about it, it's like a habit, when you pick it up, drop it and remind yourself.

That's more or less exactly what I was saying, and you're absolutely right. You avoided the most common mistake that most non-smokers make when giving advice on quitting, and that's thinking that after the first few days, it's over. You always hear about breaking the habit or breaking the addiction. You never really think of smoking as a habitual addiction or an addictive habit, or maybe you do. After the first few days, the nicotine is out of my system. After the first week or so, I don't even want nicotine. I broke the addiction. I've still got the habit though.

The last six months, the only time I enjoyed smoking was when I was drinking in social situations, which doesn't happen more than once every couple of weeks. The one thing that really helped me quit was making the decision to keep those situations separate from any other day, but now, instead of smoking more than a pack at a party, I'll smoke maybe four or five cigarettes. Aside from that I have no desire to smoke. Another thing that helped was that I carried a pack of smokes and a lighter with me everywhere. That way, I knew that I could smoke if I wanted to, which helped me not want to.
Everyone has to find their own motive and method for quitting smoking. You can tell a smoker that it's bad for them and they should quit for their health, but that won't make them quit. When I smoked, I knew that it was bad for me. I knew that my grandfather and great aunt both died from smoking-related illnesses, but that's not why I quit. I quit because I was sick of feeling like **** all the time, and I was sick of chest colds lasting weeks or months instead of days, complete with phlegmy cough. Other people have other motivation. No smoker is going to quit because some self-righteous idiot bitches at them, especially when that self-righteous idiot has never had to give up something that they're physically addicted to.
Quitting is an easy decision to make but a hard one to follow through with. I doubt he's around anymore, but I hope the OP managed it.

it's horrible for ur body, just look up on google cuases of smoking, ur lung's are black, its exspensive, and chances of lung cancer. this is just a saying " every cigarrete u smoke u lose one day out of ur life". if u really enjoy smoking keep doin it but when all ur other friends that are not smoking and are healthy and alive u will be on ur death bed praying. Oh and u will smell really bad, ur fingers will turn yellow, and ur teeth will rot. Now those are lots of reason to quit smoking. 99% of the population of smokers don't know these causes so they just go on with there happy lives thinking that nothing will happen to them, and then when they relize that they made a bad decision it will be too late. ur 20 now but by 25-30 u will see most of these effects coming in unless u quit smoking now. thats what we try to get through to these people that smoke but they dont listen. :smile.gif:

this is also true but they illegalized it so it isn't right to do it. and u shouldn't start smoking casue everyone esle is doing it thats called peer pressure, so lets say if everyone one esle was going to jump off a bridge would u do it casue they are doing it.

You may even get to the point where quitting is not even an option anymore. I'm basically a "lifer", it's just not going to happen for me. I have accepted my fate, it sucks, but there is nothing that can be done for me. I am well aware of the damage it has done and continues to do. But this **** is severely addictive. It would take weeks of being sedated and strapped to a hospital bed to just get off the smokes. And even at that, there would be a very high chance of relapse for me.
Quit while you still can!
Forget all the lectures from the non smokers.
Just keep this in mind, if you don't quit now, it will only get tougher to quit later.

I hear that brother. People who don't smoke don't understand just how hard it is to quit. I'm only a 2-4 cig a day smoker and failed to quit four times now. Don't give up though. Try patches and pills, and if you still can't, at least switch to an E-cig. You'll still be an addict, but at least with an E-cig, you won't be killing yourself anymore.
