Social "Conservative", or fiscal "Conservative"? I can see a social conservative having a larger "fear-center," but a fiscal conservative yet social liberal would likely have the smallest.

Me having a larger fear center? That's crazy. I don't give a crap about Muslims, gays, etc unless they are harming me. However, seeing a gay kiss in public with another gay is something I would like to avoid. And my best friend qualifies as a not-a-serious-Christian, so that doesn't matter.
Only people who don't like moving forward are like this. I'm not.

Both seem to operate on fear-based platforms, which is what the study is getting on about. Why would a fiscal conservative have a smaller 'fear-center?'
I guess now is a good time to point out that someone can be fiscally conservative and still socially liberal.
Not all conservatives are bible thumping fag haters...
Indeed.
It follows that if you're socially conservative, you must fear a great deal. It does not follow if you're socially liberal but fiscally conservative that you would fear more than average. I just want to do my own thing and let other people do their own thing without being overburdened with taxes. No fearmongering here.

Because fiscal conservatism has very little to do with social conservatism (except they're both based on the idea that government should be limited), despite their similar names.

Comparing a fiscal conservative and fiscal liberal, both fear something, but the opposite things. A fiscal conservative would fear government having too much power, but a fiscal liberal would fear corporations having too much power. They'd be the same, I suppose.

tl;dr: this study, if confirmed, shows that political leanings may have more to do with genetics than previously thought. Thoughts on this?
EDIT: A 'liberal gene' has also been found.

It doesn't matter though, I have a feeling this thread will turn into a political circle jerk.

I wonder what they would say about libertarians, they aren't even close to conservative or liberal.
