No sir, you're illustrating the "Fingers in ears" argumentative stance, generally assumed when one knows they have lost but are too prideful or ignorant to admit defeat.
Our argument is based on scientific evidence accumulated from years of experiments and tests.
Yours is through government propaganda and your own uninformed opinion.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway.... Yes, I do think society as a whole is becoming more desensitized as time goes on. I also think a certain individual would benefit from some firsthand research into the effects of marijuana.

Marijuana has a chance to prevent not CAUSE cancer. Anyways, I've never heard of a man dying from a herb. Alchohol and Tobacco have killed many, many, many more people than Marijuana will ever kill. Marijuana is only a bad drug if there's other drugs in it, to amplify the affect or to make it different. To me, its about as bad as drinking apple juice.

I also beleive you are right. I was not trying to not make him look bad, but going off of what he was saying. I don't know what my line of thinking was going there. Oh well =)

You legalize it to curb the crime that stems from illegal drug trade, and just because it's generally stupid as hell that it is illegal.
Don't forget that you can now tax it and generate revenue for a government that's in a severe amount of debt. Also with it legalized it becomes an actual industry which means legitimate jobs. Also with it legalized it can be subjected to regulation which can result in a safer product. Then there's also the money the government would save by not having the DEA. Oh, and the money that could be saved by not imprisoning people whose only crime is possession.
If people can't get a substance they want legally, they'll get it illegally. This is dangerous and leads to organized crime and violence.

Anyways, I've never heard of a man dying from a herb.
An herb like tobacco? Regardless, as a general rule, inhaling burning things isn't awesome for you.
The legalization of marijuana wouldn't be too awful. At the very least, it wouldn't be the apocalypse that some people envision. It's not addictive and doesn't seem to have any long-term effects. It does impair driving ability similar to alcohol, though, which makes me hesitant to say we should legalize it.
"Oh, but alcohol is legal," is not a good counter-argument. Yes, alcohol is legal, and look how well that's worked out! It really just proves what a problem driving under the influence of drugs is.
Will the legalization of marijuana lower the incidence of people driving under its influence? Hell no, why would it? Its increased availability due to legalization would almost definitely increase its incidence. There's no reason for it not to.
So it kind of boils down to this:
Legalizing marijuana = increasing availability of marijuana = more people driving under its influence = more bad
Is that enough to warrant it being illegal? Maybe. I definitely support its decriminalization, but I cannot see myself supporting its legalization.
Anyways, what you're seeing throughout the decades isn't "slippage" or the descent of morals. What you're seeing is the acceptance of certain things.
"Oh, but alcohol is legal," is not a good counter-argument. Yes, alcohol is legal, and look how well that's worked out! It really just proves what a problem driving under the influence of drugs is.
As a counter point I can give prohibition as an example of what happens when alcohol is made illegal.
Driving drunk is illegal. That doesn't stop some irresponsible idiots from doing it. So what makes you think making the substance illegal would help if the law obviously isn't a deterrent to the people who are a danger? All it would do is criminalize people who do use it responsibly and aren't a danger to others. DUI's are a problem; banning the substances aren't a solution.
This sounds like MADD propaganda to me.

Yes, but that mostly shows us what happens when something that was previously legal is made illegal. It's a bad idea. We're already stuck with alcohol, and there's not much we can really do about it, unfortunately.

I was actually trying to imply that LST should lose his "holier-than-thou" attitude and smoke some weed. I had heard that marijuana can help to reduce the likelihood of cancer, but I question whether this property is stronger or weaker in magnitude than the effects of the carcinogens from smoking it. Other than that, I completely agree with you. Also, I love apple juice. I think if everyone had some apple juice every now and then, the world would be a better place.

And so did heroin. In both cases, it was legal when people were generally ignorant about it.
