Taking a risk, and having a death wish are two different things. I assume you've never shot a gun, so you don't truly understand the power they possess. Having pointy pieces of metal fly at you at over 1000 feet per second in rapid succession is not thrilling. Having a round enter your body and tumble around shredding tissue apart beyond repair isn't thrilling. Having an IED blow your limb off leaving you permanently disabled and having to deal with the sub-standard care of the military hospitals is not thrilling. If you want to serve for the thrill of it, get the thrill from the experience as a whole, and the fact that you get to serve the greatest country in the world. Don't serve for the thrill of getting shot at or blown up.
You don't understand.
I want the risk of dying at every waking second.
I want the horror that I might not be alive two seconds from now.
I want every damn morsel of it.
I don't want to die, but if that's a consequence, so be it.
I understand. That's why I'm so concerned. When the lives of others and your own are on the line, the last thing you should be doing is enjoying that fact.
I understand. That's why I'm so concerned. When the lives of others and your own are on the line, the last thing you should be doing is enjoying that fact.
Once again I'm not suicidal.
And no, I wouldn't enjoy getting shot at, but I want it.
It's not that it would make me happy, it's just I want to experience it for once, or however many times the situation demands it.
Ask anyone who has actually been to battle (and who is also sane) and there's a damn good chance they'll tell you they wouldn't want anyone to ever experience it.
I've never been in a battle situation. I hope I never do, although I fantasize about being a hero a lot.
What I have done is save the life of a suicidal friend I had feelings for. I hope none of you ever have to do that. It's not a great feeling, holding the life of someone in your hands. At no point did I feel any "thrill". All I felt was it's either life or death, and there's no god damn way I'm letting death win. As heroic as it may be to some, I never want to go through that ever, EVER again.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is this: understand what you're getting yourself into, and be careful what you wish for. It might come knocking harder than you expect.
EDIT: After further analyzing your post, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you're more after the feeling of living in action, rather than actually wanting to serve. You remind me of me, a few years ago.
There are much safer things you can do. Skydiving, racing, martial arts training, sports, etc. Just any kind of hobby. You need to get out and just live. Get off the computer.
Saying you want to go into the military is diving head first into the deep end without knowing how to swim.
Also sounds like you need an inspirational MGS quote.
"You mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate, to be ruled by your genes. Human beings can choose the kind of life that they want to live. What's important is that you choose life... and then live. "
That single quote has helped me many, many times (although you may have to mend it a little to your own situation). Next plan: locating jack thompson and **** punting him for implying video games do no good
US promises are usually not that true.
I myself do not live in the US, but I can serve it's army.
If you want to see the world, I'd tell you to go to the airforce. More air.
Being in the marines can be greatly tedious, as a naval infantry is more trained in special assaults than on actual fire, commanding tactics or movement.
I'd always prefer people who climb walls, break windows and plant explosives.
If you want to see the world, I'd tell you to go to the airforce. More air.
Chances of actually flying something in the air force are slim, there are several magnitudes more men enlisted in the US Air Force than there are aircraft.
My great uncle was in a war...not exactly sure which one. Never really met him, cause he's in his 80's and doesn't really leave his home that often. I know my other great aunts/uncles quite well, however.
I don't think I would join the military. For one thing, I don't/probably wouldn't be willing to be in shape for such a thing. The psychological, and physical pain is a factor too. But I think it's good that people are willing to help the country, and defend people like me x]
Go ahead and join the Army of united murderers, I am not stopping you.
For info on who you attack, just think of a random communist or Islamic country, the US likely hates them.
And when you die, I will be Still alive, You monster.
Hate the war, not the warrior. Most soldiers have almost no other choice. It's the leader's fault they're used poorly.

Name one war we fought where the other country wasn't treating their people poorly.

The Civil War.
But that's besides the point.
We dont fight people because we hat them.
Hell, alot of the soldiers in Iraq/wherever out there were hired by a Corporation, not the US.
EDIT: I'm probably getting corrected on that.

Milkytracker is absolutely amazing.
Chances of actually flying something in the air force are slim, there are several magnitudes more men enlisted in the US Air Force than there are aircraft.
And airforce is not always flying a plane.
You can shoot a howitzer from a support plane.
Or bomb with a nice b2.
It's pretty much true for the naval as well, but there are more vehicles.
Just go specops, do that by being good in general.

Wut.
All of the Soldiers in Iraq are US Army Soldiers.
There's only like one PMC legally deployed in Afghanistan, and I don't even think they're still deployed out there.
Blackwater was in Iraq.
That is the anthem, the slogan, the summary of events
Yeeaaahhh, that's the corporation I was thinking about.
Was.
Last I heard the only US Combat personnel left in Iraq were there to train the Iraqis how to defend themselves.
