Seems to rank around a 970 in terms of performance, not bad at all.
I'm hoping it'll keep me up to scratch for a few more years now. The old one I got is somehow no longer capable of playing standard-issue Skyrim. I'd also really like to get back to MGSV, which this one now won't let me.

Could probably try overclocking, too, just via whatever safe OC tools come with the card. Otherwise that PSU's gonna be overkill for a long time.
Got to play BF1 the other day on a friends beast of a PC and was actually surprised at how good it was, and made me realize that my laptop can no longer keep up with the new stuff.
I'll most likely be upgrading to a better laptop (i need the mobility, can't have a desktop quite yet) late 2017
Well, every time i go home, i'll be taking my pc with me, and a 20 hour trip is much easier with just a laptop in a bag.
Can't say I stand for the whole gaming laptop idea. Heat management is terrible on such a small platform, I used to own a laptop with an external GPU and at some point it fried the HDD of the laptop, even though I had it placed on a cooling base/mat. At some point, Alienware claimed to have developed a platform which allows you to plug your laptop into a docking bay where a desktop-compatible GPU was stored, and you could have it act as the GPU of the laptop instead. Wonder if that will ever make it to the mass market, though, since Alienware will probably put a $500 price tag on it. Competition would be good for reducing its price.

Someone needs to do the math to determine if the extra weight of a desktop over a 20 hour drive factors enough to increase the cost of gas significantly. What model car do you drive and how much does your laptop weigh? And would you transport your monitor/keyboard/mouse or just the tower?

And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.

It's a pain in the butt to pack a desktop and monitor along with everything else into a car, and pretty much impossible to take onto a taxi/bus/plane. Also a higher risk of it getting stolen from your car, as you can't hide it. It's not about the cost of gas.

You gotta think though, it does factor into your gas cost. ~65 mph on a drive for 20 hours, that can be ~60 gallons of gas if you get 21.3 miles per gallon. If your car weighs 1500 lbs and your computer 50, that increases your gas usage by ~3%. Take that out of the cost for your gas and it can actually add up to quite a bit. In an ideal situation, of course.

I don't think that matters that much. You're not going to constantly be going on long drives with your computer. A backpack with books, papers, and a laptop easily weighs 50 lbs. Heck, even driving another person for a couple short drives has more of an impact than that. I don't think it would add up to more than a couple cents per trip.

So adding a 50lb weight to your drive will increase your cost by $0.99, while having three people and 100lbs of cargo will increase it by $8.64. Baseline is a 150lb 'average' person with no additional cargo added which will expend roughly 37 gallons of fuel over the drive.
I played some TF2 and there was some obnoxious Australian kid on my team... Except I couldn't hear anything he said because his mic was trash and the only thing I could make out were all the times he swore.

I take the bus, since me driving would be manslaughter spectacular.
If i actually had a car and the ability to drive it, i wouldn't actually mind carrying all the components of a PC each time i travels to and from home since it's only 6-ish trips a year.

That's sort of the hope. And maybe it'll be something that can be carried from computer to computer if by chance this one dies before the PSU dies.

I should build a desktop one day... my laptop is set up pretty good for now though.

I want a good desktop one as well.
My Surface Pro 3 will do for now.
Wait for time

That's a pretty spicy meme ya' got there. I'm gonna have to see your permit for that.

Aight I did some math, this link is where I got the mpg calculations from: https://www.statcrunch.com/5.0/viewreport.php?reportid=12692

The story has actually evolved quite a bit past that.
It's pretty good now actually.
