Not sure where else to post this. I would assume this category is appropriate?
What are the policies on Youtube CopyRight? I would like to use a song (that would come from Youtube) in a trailer for my server. Am I allowed to use and song from Youtube, or is that not allowed?
If that song is copy-righted, it is likely it will be taken down. Even if you have permission to use it. If it's a song created by another creator that doesn't have it copy-righted, it falls under the category of fair use. As long you aren't just re-uploading the song itself, you are creating a new thing that falls under fair use.

I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
So, how could I tell if a song is copy-righted or not? Are pretty much all songs on Youtube copy-righted?
I haven't been uploading things on Youtube for a very long time, I may be a bit ignorant in this area of copyright. Someone correct me if I'm incorrect.
Songs made by corporations are pretty much guaranteed to copy-righted, and they have the resources and incentive to take down anyone who uses their music. If it's a song made by the average everyday joe, unless they went through the process to have their music copyrighted, it's unlikely you will have issues. Try to get in contact with the song creator if possible to ask. If you don't want to deal with it, there are musicians out there who create free-use music specifically for people like yourself looking for music but don't want to put up with copyrights.
If you want a better answer about whether a song is safe to use or not, you should ask a youtuber or find someone else.

Ok, thank you very much for the reply and the help! I would totally contact them about using their song, but the chances of them responding to a "no-body" is very slim =P. lol I would be better off just using the royalty-free music. Thanks again for the reply!
Thanks a lot! That is really helpful! Although, Youtube hasn't been letting me sign in for the past couple weeks, so I will have to figure out how to access it.

I have a few osu! videos that were claimed, but rather anything bad they have got ad monetisation on them. Win win for everyone, I get to use the music, owners get the money they would've gotten otherwise.
