One of my friends, John, had a YT channel dedicated to Minecraft gaming, and accrued about 200 subs. Then, after he took more of an interest in graphics, removed the previous videos and uploaded GFX videos, and has been uploading those kind of videos ever since.
My other friend, Tim, says that John should've made a new channel, starting over with 0 subs, because in his mind, his current 200 subs that subscribed for gaming videos don't like GFX and probably won't like or view his GFX vids. Therefore, according to Tim, more people won't sub because they will see 200 subs, and only a couple views, and have an adverse reaction to a low view-to-sub ratio.
I told him I disagreed. According to me, hardly anyone will put time into analyzing an obscure ratio like that, and having 200 subs to START WITH is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a good thing! People are more likely to sub when they see 200 already subbing than 0. Besides just showing that 200 other people approve of a channel, so you should too, it also feels extremely to sub to a channel with a count of 1 or 2 subs.
So having read both sides, what do you think? I really think it should be obvious that 200 starting subs for a new channel theme is GOOD, not BAD, but he says to get others' opinion.
well those 200 subs, joined him to see his gaming videos not GFX videos, it was a cheap move pulled by him then again it is his channel he can do want ever he wants, as it was only 200 subs its not that big of a deal.
as for my opinion on this well i do have to say it was a very cheap move but again he does what he wants on his channel.

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
I'd have to agree with Tim, they didn't subscribe for GFX. Sure starting out with more subs is nice, but they're only there because they haven't bothered to unsubscribe yet.

And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.
If I want GFX videos, I'll look at GFX channels. If I want complete walkthroughs of video games, I'll look at walkthrough channels. Suddenly switching gears isn't very nice to his subscribers.
Edit: That isn't to say he can't do so. Gamelord makes a good point, it's his entertainment, not his fans'. But fans (can be) people too, so it doesn't hurt to consider their feelings.
Tim is completely wrong. Ooh, look how edgy I am. If I ran a YouTube channel, I would make the content I want to make, not whatever appeases my fanbase. If he wants to use the same channel, he can do whatever he pleases. It isn't his fans' channels.
As somebody who has created content for entertainment for other people to enjoy in the past (not YouTube), I can tell you it is the worst thing ever to keep doing something you dislike for your fans. The prime example here is my survival journal, which I'm debating continuing.
If people don't like the new videos, they can unsub. They have no right to any content at all, I have no sympathy if they want to whine about it. Guy can make whatever videos he wants, whatever he likes best. Don't let anybody tell him otherwise.
