As the title states, I think that YouTube is dying or is just plain out horrible. When YouTube started, it was all about uploading quality content that is entertaining. Today, most people think that YouTube is about subscribers and popularity. You can't even make a new channel anymore because it will barely get any views. Every video that I see always say "HIT DAT LIKE BUTTON!!!" or "SUBSCRIBE!!!" All of the big YouTubers videos just don't have the quality that I used to see back then. Whenever I see videos with actual quality, They are on channels that barely get any views. Don't forget how when you don't monetize your videos, they barely get any views. I have also noticed how the site is cluttered with ads. Every time I go to my homepage, there is some giant ad for a rated M game that I am not interested in, or some video ad that I can't skip that's 60 seconds long. Also, my what to watch is cluttered with recommendations for big YouTubers that I am not interested in, instead of the content from people that I subscribe to. I made a YouTube channel and I try to put out good content, yet only a few people see my content. YouTube had gotten so bad over the years, that I am just thinking of quitting it all together. What's the point of using it if you get ads for things that you are not interested in, videos that are not quality and made just so the YouTuber can make money, and recommendations for channels that you are not interested in.
It's definitely not dying, and I don't think it's getting worse. If the channels you watch begin to annoy you, find new channels.
If you just want to see your subscribers, bookmark this.
If lesser known channels actually have quality, they'll most likely become better known after a while, just give it time.
If you don't like ads, use Adblock (just keep in mind that you're curbing someone's pay for your convenience).
The best way to enjoy YouTube is to simply watch channels with content you find enjoyable. Of course you're going to have a bad experience if all you watch is content that you do not like. YouTube is certainly not dying, it keeps growing at a faster rate every year. However, your taste in videos might have changed and you might have to find new channels to watch.

Ok. Well other people think that it is getting worse, too. There was this website which contained a whole long list of why YouTube is getting worse. And how you think that it is getting better, I don't understand. Big YouTubers think that it is getting better because the new things are benefiting THEM and not smaller channels that are starting out. New channels like mine try to post quality content but never get viewed or recognized. and I do use AdBlock.

I don't care what kind of video it is. I just want to see the quality videos actually return like it was before. In fact, videos with quality have more dislikes than likes because people are blinded by the majority of crappy videos made by big YouTubers.
And how you think that it is getting better, I don't understand.
That's probably because I never said that I thought it was getting better. To me, it hasn't really changed. I've kept to the same dozen-or-so subscribers and they've produced a good quality and quantity of content to keep me satisfied.
He does make very good points about the examples he gives. However, he Texas Sharpshoots a lot, to the point where I wouldn't say that his argument is accurately representative of Youtube as a whole. For one, he gives absolutely no mention to video game-related media, probably because the article is from 2010.
Something tells me that this is mostly because you're frustrated at your own channel not being acknowledged for its "quality content".
EDIT: Quote isn't working. I hate these forums sometimes.
I'm not frustrated at my own channel. I see other channels that upload quality content that never get viewed. I am subscribed to a couple of channels that post good content But don't have a lot of views.

Really? Because saying "New channels like mine try to post quality content" seems to suggest otherwise. If, however, it's the state of youtube in general that you're truly annoyed at, I suggest you try and word things more carefully.
Also, the problem with smaller channels not getting attention is that most of them really aren't that good. The big ones are popular because they pump out good content (with a few exceptions) and do so very frequently, while small channels are often boring to watch or only have a few uploads over the span of something like half a year. As for ads in your videos, that's how youtubers make money. Some of them just have sponsors who they advertise in their actual videos, but a lot of the big uploaders have pretty much made a job out of making videos and, like all jobs, they need to be paid for it. It's not really that bad.

It was in the states of YouTube in general that I was annoyed at. I never seem to word things properly.
But I am subscribed to smaller channels that have good content.
And what do you mean by "a few exceptions"?
EDIT: here is a big YouTuber that thinks that YouTube is dying. And he apparently has some good points too.
EDIT: here is a big YouTuber that thinks that YouTube is dying. And he apparently has some good points too.
By "a few exceptions", I mean popular channels who produce videos that are absolute crap.
As for that video; I'm not going to bother watching all of it, but the guy seems to be mostly talking about how he was losing popularity due to the changes made to Youtube. That was just over two years ago, and his main channel is now extremely popular.
I gave both of them a little view. They're not bad, they're just nothing special. Look at this section. 31,969 threads of Minecraft Let's Plays. The popular ones either got there first, or did something different. If someone produces a new brand of chips that seems identical to other brands of chips, will people buy those chips? I'm sure a few will, but the majority will stick with the familiar brands. However, if someone comes out with kale chips, and claims that they're a superfood, they'd be much more popular, because there's a group of health nuts who want to eat chips but still brag about eathing 'healthy'. While you might have been successful with generic Minecraft videos in 2009, today they're a dime a dozen. You need to find a niche with low supply and high demand, that's where you'll get your views.
I also feel there needs to be a distinction between Youtube itself and the community. I am pretty sure most of you are going to agree with this: the community a cesspool of garbage. Spending 5 minutes in a "popular" youtube comments section will give you proof enough. Youtube is not dying. Everyone on it is trying to get their quick 15 minutes of fame with diminishes the overall worth in some folks eyes. Me personally I won't ever stop watching Youtube. Will you see crap content? Of course, because people trying to get popular with little to no effort.
Don't get me wrong, there are good folks and a "good" part of the community, but when the majority of the comments are about people losing their minds over trival matters it leads you to question what people are doing.
