He's saying that obsessing over it stupid. I mean, I don't have a problem with playing apps, or texting. But they have a time and place. Walking down a sidewalk, at a youth group or some other social thing, or other similar things aren't the place. The fact that people seem to have nothing better to do most of the time is kind of sad.
Yeah, a woman on the street nearly walked straight into me because she was using her phone.

There is nothing "better" to do with their time. There is nothing "worse" to do with their time. We are using up a finite life with no apparent purpose or meaning. Nothing counts as a waste of time because that would imply that there's a purpose inherent to life as a concept. If you believe there is a purpose in life as a concept, I won't object, but do note that it's nigh-impossible to prove that purpose.
Granted, we do have to work with other people, so sociologically there may be what is considered "better" things to do, but I believe the lack of purpose trumps that, mostly because of my apathy towards what other people think in regards to mostly harmless activities.

Saying that there is no purpose in life a total opinion, that many people disagree with. I mean, you probably do, too. If there's no purpose, then why are staying alive?
It's also an opinion to say that there's nothing better to do. Honestly, there are things that are better to do, if only better for you.
Honestly though, I'm done arguing with you. Someone who thinks that there is no purpose in life is impossible to argue a point with, because from your point of view, there is no final consequence. Any argument that I give, no matter how much it makes sense, you can wave away, saying "There is no point to life, so it doesn't matter".

You're absolutely right. But in the context of this argument, you and the OP chose to say that it was a "waste of time" or imply that there's "better" things. I am counterarguing that because it seems to be an argument you and OP and perhaps several others are going with. For the purposes of other arguments I am obliged to assume that things matter. I have been given no reason to do so with this one.
It is also an opinion to say that there is something better to do. The universe doesn't care whether or not I believe there are better things for me to be doing. From a pseudo-objective viewpoint, what I do has no bearing on anything. And then I die. And then the Universe dies however many trillions of eons later. And then there was no point in me doing anything in the first place.
But I do think it's impolite of you to try and simply stop discussing it. I am willing to assume that things matter if you have a better argument.
Your other argument that I glossed over (apologies, for some reason I've been doing that a lot lately) was that there was a better time and place. Assuming things matter, I'd say, why is that? The culture has changed enough that unless you absolutely must pay attention (for whatever purpose) then there's no real reason to. I find it unpleasant to a certain degree that most of my peers like to talk about their phones a lot because I'd rather talk about other things, but if it makes them happy and I have something else to do, why should I care?
Purpose in life is to make life better for the next generation. At least thats how I see it.
Except the next generation will do that, too, then the next, then the next, and so on until the human race is extinct, entropy has caught up/the apocalypse has occurred, and it never mattered that you did so anyways.
So there was no point to accept that as a purpose, since in the end, it wouldn't have mattered. There was no reason for life to make itself better for other life because the effort is simply erased. Effectively, there might as well not be a purpose in that case.

Yes, but it'd be kind of stupid just to stop development of the human race altogether so every generation has the same experience. If past generations hadn't kept developing, you wouldn't be on the minecraft forums. Or any forums. Or the internet. So until the apocalypse, we're going to keep developing.

That's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever read.

Sure. But being the purpose of life is different from being the purpose of development.
But that's exactly what life is about. Becoming as advanced and powerful as we can before we inevitably die out.
Not necessarily. I've been told many times by many people what 'life is about.' Every one of them said something different. Integration. Enjoyment. Transition.
Each one of them could make a logically sound case. Responsibility. Utilitarianist arguments. Technicalities. All not quite right in one way or another, because it ignores the extreme long-term. Your argument has an escape clause by making death into a scoreboard instead of an end. Cheap, but I'll give you it.
So in your case, I'll ask you two questions.
1. How do you define 'advancement?'
2. How do you define 'power?'
It's good to say we're going to be more advanced and powerful, but if we don't understand what we're trying to be, then there's no point in being it. And if what we're trying to be is logically unsound, then we shouldn't be it.
I find it just fine. I'm a 90s kid who grew up playing nothing but video games and usually had my face buried in my Game Boy so it doesn't bother me to see little kids with fancy iPhones. When I have kids of my own, I'd give them one as soon as they start kingdergarten.

Exactly, or like when people walk into traffic because they're looking at their phone. It's just rude.
