I would personally go with the 914, just because I prefer a mid-engine, RWD combo. They are similar cars - which engine is in the 914? Hopefully the flat-six.

Personally, I wouldn't be picking between the two based on looks. I'd be wanting to check out the condition of the bodywork, interior & engine bay, and also judging them both on how they actually drive. You can have an amazing looking car that you still dislike because it drives horribly, and that is never fun.
The Alfa has power mirrors and windows though, and will probably be more comfortable. Porsche would be faster, but in a car of that age you probably don't want to push it too hard anyway.
The latter looks nicer IMO, but I've no clue about cars.

yes i know... but they have a very similar engine... also the Porsche handles amazingly and the alfa is actually faster and more compatible.... here is a pic of the interiors...

The Alfa's got a nicer interior and exterior, but if you paint the Porsche it won't be so drab. Speed doesn't matter in old cars, if they can even get what they used to be able to they'd probably be the shakiest and scariest ride ever. I'd look more at what's on the inside, like the quality of the transmission, engine, etc.

Thank you. I plan to paint the Porsche glossy white if I get it
the cars were meant to last a very long time. they each only have over 40,000 miles. Great condition. they are nowhere near falling apart or having issues.
Cars are expected to have 5 to 10 years of good performance before they start falling apart. It's pretty rare to see cars on the road (at least in the northeast USA) that are older than 15 years, and these guys are about 40 years old. I'm quite surprised that they have only 40,000 miles. My daily driver is a 2007 with 65,000 miles but I know numerous people with cars from 150,000-250,000 miles.
If that was even slightly his criteria, these cars would totally not even be on his radar. Both of these barely get 20mpg (with 35-40mpg being what a brand new sedan would get)

Mid-engine RWD is fantastic. I've got a 1987 Pontiac Fiero for a weekend car. It's got a 2.8L V6 in front of the rear axle.

I'm quite amazed too. My '97 Accord has 187,000ish miles on it - 2.2L 4-cylinder. Still pretty good but the transmission likes to slip from time to time. Though I guess that's what you get with an almost-20 year automatic transmission.
And you said it. I'd love to have a "fun car" for the weekend. I've always preferred RWD, even if it isn't mid-engined, Though mid-engined is simply fantastic.
Sire I inquire as I do with most, but do you mean to gloat? For is it truly such a tire to reply to the host with but a simple QUOTE?

Aw, shame. Well, the 914 will put you down the road faster than the Alfa, but they should both be really fun cars, regardless of which you choose.
