could you use a batch to exe converter so that it could be emulated on other os, like Wine for Ubuntu? or you could use some other program but I'm not sure.
Plus could it really be called a "game". There are those books where its a adventure where you chose where you want to go then there is a page number, telling you where to flip to. I never heard that those books are called "games"...
Change the title!
title Planet Xinus
to change the title instead of saying:
C:/Windows/system32/cmd.exe
change the colour?
type
help color
to see the colours
then type
color (number)
After:
if %start% == 3 goto place etc
you could say
echo invalid selection
echo press to continue.
pause >nul
goto mainmenu
so that when someone types anything other than 123 or etc. it would just go down the batch then say invalid selection then goto mainmenu or some other place.
Awesome! I made a few games like this, and am still working on one of them. I was wondering, I don't know batch very much, but why do you constantly ping the localhost?
"ping localhost -n 2 >nul"
Otherwise, great game! It has an awesome story, and I hope you continue your work!

He uses that to add a timing effect, it's to check to see how long it takes for you to find your ping, where the number is how long it will take. I'm terrible at explaining it, but take it away, put it back, use it and edit it and you should find out how it works.
Well I'll be... I haven't played a choose your own adventure game like this for a long time! I wish I could give you two, or three, but I give you a :Diamond:!

This is an actual game, but I understand what you mean.
Also, I think he used this language to code in, because it's easier and takes the least amount of time, which almost makes it relaxing and not very stressfull. I might check out your W.I.P. latter and tell you what I think in a PM, but you forgot do add "Shamless Self Promoting" to your post, it's kind of needed, lol.
What program do I use to run the game? I'm on windows 7.
Never mind, figured it out...
I enjoyed it very much! I hope you keep developing it!
BTW I'm making an ASCII minicraft clone in C++, which uses the console as well.
Hey wheatley, Im awesome at batch, so if you need any help... I'd be willing! I've created several programs: An epic custom spam creator, file, screen, you got it. Especially these adventure games! I know for, while, bleh. Im still kinda a semi-good batch person: I mostly learn C++ now, but sooner or later, Ill go back to batch. One problem though, can you answer it? How do you make a program create a program to input something into another file? This is what I have:
echo echo hi > "2createfile.bat" > "file2create"
Dammit, Im getting old(12), Im losing my sense of comparism to comparing... WELL, the objective of that code snippet above is to alloiw the file to create ANOTHER file to make a final .txt output. Ideas? And need new programs? ive got skype: john924xps
Sorry if this is getting random, but I really want to do something. Im being wasted
PS. Just because I create a spammer program doesnt mean I create viruses. Well, not a lot XP.And what about pictures for the game? There IS such thing. In batch, certain symbols you input may not come out the way you expect.
One suggestion, wheatley198. Right after "@echo off", type: "title Planet Xinus". That will make it show "Planet Xinus" at the top of CMD instead of the ugly "C:\Windows\sys......"
I also made my own text adventure game, though it isn't much of an adventure. More like just a conversation. Here: http://www.mediafire...btcc55dcz9wqnvr

It just takes up a few seconds of time.
So you can make the user wait.
Seems not. I asked the developer and he didn't even respond.
HELLO, I am back. Long story short, I lost ALL info regarding my account and the game, and haven't been active on ANYTHING for a while. I recently found an old beta of PX, and I'm coming back to he project! I will be starting a new post, and the game is being totally re-vamped. I'll be honest, I didn't think much of the game. I didn't know so many wanted this thing to continue, so I just ignored it. After coming here out of curiosity, and seeing this just made my day. Expect the first NEW beta before the new year.

Cool! Can you link us to the new thread once you make it?

He knows that, but he's said it multiple times that he just likes it the way it is. Search before you post, so clutter like this can be reduced.

65 Million YAML errors in the making
Hey this is really cool, what program language did you use? Ive always wanted to make games even if they were text based.
