No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
It was pretty good, the only thing I dislike about it is how lacking in information the story line was... Why are the Covenant enemies again?
Writing this reply made me want to go find out on the halo wiki, so I'll just find out that way I guess. :|
OOooh, also, I wonder why it seems the Covenant has lost the ability to speak English!? In 3, they were pretty fluent, but they seem to have gone back to the way they were in 1, only speaking few words and mostly animalistic noises and/or their own langauge. What's with that? It's only just over 4 and a half years later...
The wiki doesn't have much information on Halo 4 (or at least what I specifically want), does anyone here know why the things I listed happened?
I bought Halo 4 today. It wasn't until I came home and was about to start opening the game that I realized...
I freaking bought Halo 4! I quickly went back to the store and returned it.
...?
If you're going to reword other people's posts and turn them into insults for the heinous crime of liking a game you don't like, here's an idea: EXPLAIN WHY YOU DON'T LIKE THE GAME.

Fine, here you go. And this goes for just about every single modern FPS on a console, period.
1. It's a console FPS.
And that's it... Oh, you don't understand? Let me explain...
2. Playing an FPS on a console with a gamepad is like this:
3. Master Chief is like a paper slug. Moves very slowly (compared to a proper FPS like Quake or Doom) and gets killed very easily.
4. You can only hold two weapons and everybody ends up using something like the SMG or assault rifle most of the time. So much for strategy...
5. The level design in the single-player campaign is like this:
It was pretty good, the only thing I dislike about it is how lacking in information the story line was... Why are the Covenant enemies again?

From what I played, IIRC, Cortana mentions something about a radical sect of the Covenant are the ones that found you on your ship in the beginning.

Your only problem is not paying attention to the dialogue that explained all of this, in the very first level.
There is also more information on the books, where you find out
They were an underequipped sect led by Jul' Mdama, Storm rebels was the name I think. If you have read Halo: The Thursday War you you can see that Jul ended up on a Sangheili colony populated by a Great Journey-obsessed people after escaping Trevelyan (Onyx). Due to the manner of his arrival through a forerunner portal he is looked up to by the populous.
In addition, in the book the Didact is often referred to as hating humans and wanting their destruction. Jul of course wishes this too and would naturally hunt for Requiem in order to awaken the Didact and ally with him. (I believe the book hinted that he had found possible coordinates too).
Also, Jul Mdama is actually secretly an atheist, but he uses the old belief to rally Elites around him to aid in his fight against humans, whom he desperately despises, especially after he was help captive by them in the Thursday War.

Lol, I like Halo, but I'm not going to read a book on it. Okay, maybe I would, if I happened to come across one or something...
As for not paying attention, I don't recall skipping any cutscenes, but hey, things happen. I've only played through it once so far, so it's understandable I missed stuff.
@bowserchomp
Lolwut?
I get the hate for console FPS, I dislike mostly all of them...
You say that playing an FPS with a controller is comparable to that picture? So it's awesome? Okay. *Shrug*
Slow like a paper slug? Well, in Halo 4 they introduced running! Killed easy? So, you are mad because you are a ing noob at the game? Understandable, people tend to dislike what they are bad at.
Btw, I didn't really expect to cuss like that, lol. I'm not editing it out, because I agree with what I said.
Only two weapons... I don't like this also, but as finland said, it's not like he has a magic pocket of some sort.
I agree it wouldn't be hard for them to just add some more magnetic spots on his armour for weapons to attach to, but maybe they will in Halo 5!?
BTW, your level design picture is broken. I for one think they could make the levels a bit more comprehensively. I guess it's their way of making the game seem less linear. Linear looks really weird typed out, I even googled it to make sure it's the right word for what i mean... :/

You don't have to read the book to understand, really. It's a kind of separate story. The relevant part is all in the game
I'm got the game last month and beat the campaign on heroic. I'm not really in it for the multiplayers, that, and I've been having technical issues with XBL. It took a bit of time to get used to playing an FPS on a console, but it really wasn't so bad. Overall, I enjoyed campaign, however, I am sad as to the removal of firefight. I kind of felt that the Prometheans were rather unfun to fight, as they took forever to kill without any power weapon, but they weren't aggressive enough to kill me, so it basically boiled down to me rushing them with a CQC power weapon, like a scattershot, and murdering them. I thought the elites were pretty good. The AI on all of the enemies (including the Prometheans) was pretty solid, but the Marines are dumb as a sack of potatoes and die faster than a CoD player. Overall, Halo games have always had moderately strong campaigns--Halo:CE and Halo 2 were my favorites--and Halo 4 is no exception. If I'm looking for well-balanced, skillful multiplayer, I'll just play TF2, but Halo's singleplayer, I find, is what keeps me coming back to this franchise.

Good enough for you?
You're completely arrogant and think you are the best thing to exist on this forum. You seek out any thread that has to do with console in order to bash on it.
1. Using a gamepad vs. keyboard and mouse is purely opinionated.
2. He moves just as fast as any FPS I've played, on Console or PC.
3. I don't know any games where you can hold more than two guns. You do understand how damn heavy a gun is, correct? I assume you don't since you're complaining about someone wearing a suit that weighs 450 kg (1,000 lbs.) and also carrying two weapons that are probably about 30 lbs. each. And that's being generous.
You just hate it because it's on console. You would love it if it was on PC. Enough said.
First of all,why do you go into every Halo 4 topic you find and make a negative comment about it?
Are you just trying to make people stop playing Halo because you say so?
1 and 2. If you don't like console FPS games, then just don't play them.Just ignore them completely and go play BF3 on your self-built gaming PC or whatever.
3.Obviosly he moves slow most of the time...he is wearing a f**king suit of armor. And he gets killed too easily? Are you just really bad at the game or are you playing on Legendary?
4.I keep switching my weapons all the time.Every weapon has differences. He can't carry around more than 2 guns because he doesn't have a magical pocket that can store all the guns in the game.
5.Can't see the posted image, but the level design is very good imo.
So yeah...I think you are just really bad at Halo and want to make everyone stop playing it because you say so.
1 & 2. You don't understand. Maybe I should've use the word "console-style FPS", because just because an FPS is on the PC doesn't mean it's not a console-style FPS. BF3 is a console-style FPS, regardless of the platform it's on. If you want a proper FPS to play, I suggest Quake Live or Unreal Tournament 3. I wanted to avoid naming other games because this IS a thread primarily about Halo 4 after all.
3. Oh, the realism argument. Listen, sir, you're talking a video game. There's nothing realistic about Halo 4. Regen health is not realistic. Neither is carrying two extremely heavy guns while wearing an extremely heavy power suit. Neither is the futuristic setting. And neither is the whole "run and gun" thing. Your argument is invalid.
Halo 4 was not built on realism. It was built on having as narrow of a skill range as possible (accessibility), just like most console FPS's. Meaning that the difference in skill between a newbie and a veteran is significantly smaller than in a traditional FPS.
4. The two weapon limit is there to simplify the game and compensate for the limits of the gamepad. You cannot quickly pick from a choice of 10+ weapons quickly on a gamepad like you can on the mouse+keyboard. You've got the number keys. Or the mouse wheel if you prefer choosing sequentially.
Oh, and the last sentence in your post? That's called ad hominem. An insult disguised as an argument, basically.
I don't expect anyone to stop playing Halo 4 just because I said so. I'm just offering my two cents.

Oh, and I would like you to name the differences between a console-style FPS and a PC-style FPS because unreal tournament and quake live are both on console!
oh, and
>inb4 halo 4 is not supposed to be realistic, doesn't claim to be, doesn't try to be, and is one of the most unrealistic games that exists today.
And one more thing. You can hold the bumper buttons to switch weapons and is at the same amount of efficiency as keyboard+mouse

Console-style FPS's are designed around the limitations which the typical console set-up (gamepad, TV sitting 10 feet away from the player) impose on the precision and versatility which the typical PC set-up offers.
That's right. The keyboard+mouse offers more precision than the gamepad ever will. It's not subjective or opinionated, it's a FACT. And that's the reason you never see online FPS's allowing console users to play with PC users. Because the keyboard warriors will kick the console users' arses every single time.
Still don't believe me? Try controlling a mouse cursor with a gamepad sometime. See how clunky that is? Use it everyday, and you'll get used to it. Then go back to the mouse. You'll be jarred by the amount of precision the mouse offers.
Also, console FPS's are designed in a way to shrink the skill difference down to nil. Meaning that anyone can be "good" at the game if they show a pulse. Slow the game down to a crawl, make the kills come extremely quickly, and only allow players to hold two weapons at a time.
