So-called "indie" games are all so ****ing overrated, it's borderline sickening. VVVVVV, Binding of Issac, Braid, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, etc. aren't any more worth playing than the millions of free Flash games out there trying to be "retro" 2D platformers. I'd rather play Call of Duty: (insert subtitle here). At least that game doesn't pretend to be a work of art.
Fable 2, Fable 3, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Oblivion, Morrowind, every FF, Halo 2 and every one after 3, Minecraft, Maplestory, WOW, GW2, Team fortress 2, Half Life, Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, and many others.
Wow, hipster gamer much? Let me guess, your favorite game is Obscure Knights of Anime 1 right, because the second one was too mainstream and lame? I honestly can't stand it when people say that a game is overrated just because it's popular. Get some taste, seriously.
I would have to say Minecraft and Pokemon. Minecraft is alright, but society is giving it far better ratings than it deserves. Seriously, what do you do in singleplayer besides build random crap? What do you do in multiplayer besides see a lot of spam and get ignored by admins, while doing the same exact thing as singleplayer? Also Pokemon. I have no desire to play the games, but I think I know enough about them to have an opinion. What I understand is that you: Fight in duels -> Earn cash or Pokemon or some ****-> Walk around -> Repeat, and there's like four or five games right? God damn. No wonder I hate it when people say the Elder Scrolls or Fallout is overrated, because they actually put effort into their games instead of just using the same formula because it attracts CoD-hatin' hypocrites.
Where are the options?! Only one scene, and it's just a bland hallway! Only one move, and it's both an attack and a defense? One boss, and it's indestructable?! As well as you, you can't even die! This game sucks!
Also, hasn't this thread been done like 82135785638273846387875738527853 times?
Well, I'd say, Skyrim, maybe?
Are you confusing popularity with it being overrated? I think Skyrim's a great game, but people have started bandwagoning on Skyrim for some reason. And now that it's becoming really mainstream, all the hipster gamers feel the need to call it overrated because of it's popularity. Don't worry, they usually manage to make up some ******** flaws that the game supposedly has.

And now you have named every good game to come out.... well besides Fable 3

No, I really think it's overrated. I won't deny that it can be VERY fun to play, but, I don't know, I just feel it's lacking something. Maybe I should play something old school by Bethesda like Morrowind or Oblivion (Even though Oblivion isn't old school in the slightest).

oblivion is very old school, and it wasn't hpyed as much as say Skyrim, because it didn't seem many people were into it
Gears of War 1/2/3, we have way to many cover based systems
Um, what? Much as you're entitled to your own opinion, this reasoning is pretty weird. Your blaming a game that made its gameplay type popular for being derivative? How does that work? By this logic I could say Half Life sucks, because there are plenty of other story-based FPSs around.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

No. Skyrim is genuinely overrated.
Much as I still really enjoy the game, and does improve on some aspects of previous games, it just failed to get the core aspects right. For a start, the story makes no sense what so ever, don't try to defend this. It also lacks the interesting quests that previous games have, whereas Oblivion had lots of creative stories and quests, 90% of Skyrim was fight dragons/draghr.

My favorite game is Jet Set Radio Future psycho lol
I dont even watch anime.
I say those games are overrated, because they are dumbed down for the general kiddies in the industry. See, the gaming industry is much like the movie industry. I'm not one of the tools who dish out $60 for an add-on for the original game or a recolor. I search around for something that I'm truly going to appreciate, instead of wasting money I could be pointing towards deserving charities.
And now you have named every good game to come out.... well besides Fable 3

Fable 2&3 ruined the series. Same deal with Fallout 3. FF7 kind of ruined the ff series because it changed everything, resulting in FF8 and a spin into generic weeaboo jap garbage. Pretty much every game from ff8 onward had a messy, unrealistic plot and an obnoxious and horrible song sung by an obscure asian woman. Halo was always overrated. Minecraft is fair on it's own, but like valve games, the obnoxious and OCD community makes it much more difficult to find joy from the games. Maplestory was cute and unique for a few years, but it's incredibly horrible considering the uber-greedy NEXON corp who runs it, requiring you to dish out hundreds of bucks for just one of your characters not to be stunted. Problem with WOW is that it's an MMO. I guess I'm just not the dweller or newfg kiddie type it's aiming for.
DayZ mod- I honestly don't see the realism in it. I don't find it so realistic that it should be revolutionary or noted.
Kingdom Hearts Series- I know a lot of people would disagree with me but I find the story too confusing and convoluted and I never found it to be that rewarding of a game.
Skyrim- I played it, got frustrated with the immense amount of glitches in the game and I don't think it should of gotten such a high praise.
well, like the earth
forums are not flat but rather round
your tip of the day
I really don't understand why people think it that amazing.
It's an average shooter with average graphics and an average story.
Yes, including Portal. Sure it was good, but that doesn't mean it wasn't overrated.
My name is Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair.
Hey man, don't you be dissin' on muh Ricochet. That game's vastly underrated.

But I'd have to say CoDs...

TF2.
Most FPS games.
...
That's about it.
1. Skyrim
2. Slender
3. WoW
4. GTA: SA (great game but nostalgia does crazy things to people)
5. Borderlands
6. Portal
NOTE 2:I think most of these are great games, just the community overhyped them

Some of the general games I'm playing currently.
