I'm a Java programmer, and I'm a terrible artist. Anything else, just ask me.
Personally if I was you, I wouldn't use java and instead switch over to C#, The languages are the same and if you've got Visual Studio it makes it a LOT easier... But if your going for java, dont let me stop you.
And I'll be looking forward to this release. Seems like a Dwarf Fortress-y Zombie Survival...And Zombie Survival never gets old.
I don't know if anybody bashed it, but I do know that I wasn't in time to.
Cheers
Java has Eclipse which is free, open source and has more features than Visual Studio, and tons upon tons of plugins to add even more functionality, something that you don't get in Visual Studio unless you purchase it.
Cheers
Yeah I'm writing it in eclipse.
I'm just kind of skimming through some java references right now and refreshing my memory.
I'm going to keep working on textures and I should get to coding within a week.

You know, saying that games made with Game Maker (or Rpg Maker, even) are inherently bad is being pretty close-minded. Sure there's shovels after shovels of badly done ones, but there's always some that just happen to be a bit of a gems:
Spelunky, made with Game Maker; Ao Oni, made with Rpg Maker XP; And a list of good games (if not overlooked) made with Rpg Makers
Even you weren't in the end making the next best game known to man, using a game maker of any sort help you learn some basics of making games, which help later when your tool no longer satisfy you and wish to jump into programmation.
Lastly, if you are still interested with programming you game, i too recommend C#, with XNA.

7 good games compared to uh... thousands upon thousands of good games written in C/C++? Yeah, I'm close minded. Sorry. I'm sure that you shouldn't discourage batch as a game programming langauge ether because there should be a gem made with it. Yep, everybody who thought batch wasn't viable for game development is close-minded.
What i meant is that Game Maker is an OK learning tool to makes games, at least in term of what compose a game, irregardless of technicalities.
And no, batch should go to hell for what i care.

And so, you want them to go straight to #2 ? They'll have even less clues about what's going on in a game. That won't make them more likely to not give up.

No, I wouldn't say that it's a good tool. The general path of work is like this:
1) Use Game Maker, learn how to make games.
2) Want to move on to programming, but can't see how hello world relates to games and doesn't understand the language when trying to make a game, if they even get that far. (Essentially, tries to apply game maker to programming.)
3) Give up.
Cheers
Is that even something to say cheers about? O_o
Anyway, I'm getting deeper into refreshing my java memory I should be able to start the coding really soon.
Also got some textures done today.

If you ever think of using C# use this IDE: http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/ it's almost 100% like Eclipse and will convert C# code to Python, Ruby, Boo (idk what this is), and VB.NET. Just a nice little IDE all around if you ever want to use C#. (And the Eclipse like-ness makes it easier to use after using Java)
i would **** myself like an excited dog if you gave me one of these
My school tech administrator gave me 20. I out loud that day and I wasnt ashamed of anything. I just got more software then I'll ever be able to afford.
well even putting gml as part of your skill set kinda tags you as a mediocre programmer at best. Not saying you are, but its kinda like a graphic designer listing ms paint as one of his skills. it doesn't always mean he is a bad artist, but generally a good artist wouldn't use ms paint if he could use Photoshop due to paint's severe limitations in comparison, and if he did he wouldn't think it was worth mentioning.

I get your meaning. I guess I'm going to take it off.

I personally HATE eclipse...but im not gonna stop you
go ahead with that and good luck. Im looking forward to this.

Personally I like eclipse.
It makes managing files and classes a lot easier.
At least I'm not writing it in notepad and going through and converting them to class files through command prompt.
I never was able to get into it...The interface is too confusing for my taste.
Colgate is mai waifu!~
Haha.
Why do you say cheers after everything you post?
