Hello all. I just want to say one thing. I want everyone to know, in advance, that I am not trying to be rude, just being blunt and speaking my opinions out loud. Games like "Total Miner" or (as the thread title says--) "Fortresscraft" are not "rip-offs" or "copies" of Minecraft. Minecraft is just a bigger game. Yes, it is older then the other ones. BUT just because Minecraft is the "King" or the "Blue Blood" of it's genre, doesn't mean other corporations or people can't make a game that's in the same category. That's like saying anything that's an RPG that's like The Elder Scrolls is a rip off of The Elder Scrolls. TES is a big, popular, king of RPGs, but that doesn't mean people can't make RPGs and not be copying them. People just think anything like Minecraft stole it from them. Also, it's called an inspiration. Martin Luther Kg. was an inspiration for many people to make the world is how it is today. (Racism wise(and other ways)) People we not copying MLKJ when they gave public speeches.
IF you consider "Here you go, this is the level of detail (1m3) that Minecraft is capable of rendering" to be an INSULT, might I suggest that you have lead a very sheltered life :|
It's and insult to what Mojang has made. You're basically saying "My game is good, Minecraft is bad."

No, that's not what he's saying at all, he's saying that his game is more suited to creative building (which it is). Basically, if you want exploration and adventure, you'll get Minecraft; if you want a detailed creative tool, you have Fortresscraft.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

Well then he should have said that, because I interpreted it differently.

Super Hostile maps I've completed: Spellbound Caves (Yeah, I pretty much suck.)
Well then he should have said that, because I interpreted it differently.
Notice he calls his game 'evolutionary' rather than 'revolutionary'. That shows he just wants to improve upon a formula he loves, I don't see a problem with that.
@ProjectorGames: I suggest you create a new image showing the exact same thing made in both FC and MC at the same size, that way you really have shown the potential of both of them.
No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
Personally I don't like the pure creative aspect of Minecraft, either. Simply because it feels pointless. I prefer survival mode, where you can build cool stuff, but you need to collect the resources to do so first.
I don't know if FC has this (survival elements, having to acquire resources to build, crafting, etcetera). But really, if I wanted to do creative 3-D modeling- I'd do 3-D modelling (this applies to MC creative mode particularly).
That said, I will use it to test contraptions and experiment before using resources in my survival world to build them.
Well then he should have said that, because I interpreted it differently.
Actually, on page 3, he DID say that: "What part of this isn't clear? Minecraft beats the **** out of FortressCraft for gameplay (survival, crafting, all that good stuff); for creative builds, FortressCraft wins out."
Next time actually read the topic before you judge his opinion, or you run the risk of misinterpreting his views, like you just did.
Though it is a completely different game in its own way, I just feel like the creators of these minecraft INSPIRED(notice I didn't say ripoff/clone!) games need to improve on what is already there, rather than just add some new things. First thing that comes to mind is graphics, take fortresscraft for example, it has hd graphics, but does it fit very well, nope. in my opinion, they should focus more on making smaller voxels, rather than HD ones, take voxelstein for example.
It doesnt have hd graphics, but it does have smaller voxels, what do you prefer? Minecraft with HD blocks, or this?
Another example is the atomotage engine:
Bit more advanced, as you can see, but unique, this is what will sell(by that I mean lots of money, notch-like even!).
The problem is no one is willing to undertake this, and rather stick with what is safe(sound familiar?)
Basically, what Im trying to say is, ditch the minecraft look all together, and do something like this, it is more original AND better in quality
Also don't give me the crap about computers can't handle it and stuff, they can easily handle voxelstein graphics, it is just a matter of being able to code better than a horses' ****.
PS:If someone would make a game that looked like the first one, I would give up my soul to him/her and be his/her eternal slave for infinity and beyond! As would most people probably
TL:DR
Minecraft+smaller voxels=good game
Minecraft+HD graphics and a few extra features=not so much
I am not trying to offend, Im just stating the facts.
Well minecraft is written in Java, which is quite an archaic language by today's standards with C# and C++ out there. It's not optimized very well and RAM whores your computer. I wouldn't say minecraft is a "relic", but if it were written in a different language and optimized better it wouldn't run so poorly.
On the note of the Dev being a ****, imagine if you wrote an AWESOME vampire book, but every day, people knock on your door and tell you it's a ripoff of Twilight. EVERY DAY. Would you calmly explain to them that your book has qualities that Twilight doesn't have? Or would you tell them to **** off and slam the door in your face? Just something to consider.
I'm fine with the game but not with the Dev.
He is an arsehole who basically got really cocky and said that minecraft was crap because Fortresscraft is newer and minecraft is an old Relic.
Haven't done that much research on the subject have you? The dev already said (in this thread, I might add) that Minecraft easily beats Fortresscraft for gameplay and adventure, the only thing he thinks Fortresscraft does better is building (and obviously graphics.

As such I haven't come across Fortesscraft, and to be frank I came to know about this game through here only, but as per the reviews I am getting here, I think I should give out a try for this game, as I am getting interested towards it.
PD: The creator of FC is a ****ing arrogant and a complete dumbass. I lold with his "arguments" and his comparisons. Peace.
You mean by comparing the level of structural and architectural detail in the 2? You can't achieve the same level of detail in MC that you can in FC, that doesn't make FC better, but it does mean that it's better as a creative tool.

So I come across this thread by complete accident. Never having heard about Fortresscraft, I begin reading this with an open mind. There is some good discussion about 'clones' and 'copies'. However after reading the comments by this guy that is supposed to be the main developer, wow. Not interested in a game made by someone who would rather insult then educate about their product. Let alone do it on a competitors forum, regardless if it's in off-topic or not. You certainly have a right to defend your game and correct misconceptions. But to insult any possible new customers is lame and any possible interest at least for me is gone. Seems you're happy with what you've sold so far, that is great. Insulting those who may not understand some things or might be interested in this game, even indirectly, might get you some word of mouth, but mostly for the wrong reasons.
At the time I started reading this thread it only had a little over 1600 views. Not a lot especially in a huge forum like this. Still enough for someone like me who had never heard of this game yet have a huge interest in this genre overall to want to check this thread out. If you are indeed the real developer for this, you may want to reassess how you react to threads like this and educate your potential customers. Good luck to you, sir.
I don't understand why we can't just like both games. It doesn't take a massive paragraph to explain the fact that both games have good stuff, both games have bad stuff, and both of the developers are assholes. End of discussion, case closed, because at the end of the day, both of these games will eventually wither and die, and we're all going to look back at these ridiculous and pointless arguments and say, "Wow, I was a ****ing retard back then."

Oh, so the game is not a copy of Minecraft, No, it's not.
when It's clearly based on Minecraft? That's a really dumb argument. By the same logic I could say Half-Life is a copy of DOOM, or Elder Scrolls is a copy of LOTR or even that Family Guy is a copy of The Simpsons.
"craft" in the title and same kind of gameplay. It's a mix of Dwarf-Fortress and Minecraft. Are you goingto start calling it a rip-off of Dwarf-Fortress?
Also, they never would have gotten the idea if there was no Minecraft. And Notch would never have gotten the idea if there was no Infiniminer.

At least play the FortressCraft before offering up your opinion! FortressCraft has nothing even slightly similar to Minecraft's survival-based gameplay!
Have I insulted anyone in anything other than a joking fashion? Seriously? I'm on this thread to try and educate people; but when people tell me "It's a carbon-copy of Minecraft", then I show them a video showing that it's really not, and then it turns into personal attacks or pig-headedness?
Please, do tell me what I'm supposed to do. I've been the brunt of personal and professional attacks from everyone from ignorant fanboys to Notch himself over the last 18 months, and yet I *still* generally deal with people in a calm and professional manner.
Everyone has limits. I'm only human. I'm not a massive company, employing someone who doesn't give a **** about their game, posting saccharine comments on a forum to appease people. I'm a single guy, with a great passion and love for his game, who has been vilified for daring to write something that's voxel based.
I think dealing people in a professional way would not be posting in the forums of people you hate. It's okay for you to try to educate people about your game, but to turn around and snap at someone for every bit of criticism, constructive or not, is not being professional. If their criticism is what you say it is, then why do you make it hurt yourself so much?

I'm with the speedrunning community and this [below] is a semi-annual charity marathon we hold.
I don't think it's so much as a copy, as it's extremely similar. It would only be a copy if he literally took Minecraft and made it into his own game. That being said, a lot of games use blocks as their play-style. Not a lot of them use a real-world style, though.
Hope this Spreads--
