I added sigs on the first post! I would be very happy face if you guys used them to spread the word! Making a big game like this by yourself takes ages and it's hard.... I need mah motivationz!
Also, tell me what you guys think I should add and do with the game. Give me ideas and suggestions and stuffz! Keep the thread alive!
The next update is kinda almost done. I've done 12/16 visual things (like a bath, fridge, toilet, etc) and 0/18 items :S. These can be like 15x easier to model and texture but they have more programing and some have animations so they probably take around the same time as visual things.... These are like a shovel, law mower, plates, buzzsaw, bread, water, bandage, etc... I will also have to program mobs and stuff but I'm good at that and that's the funnest out of everything :biggrin.gif:
I could do it in a week if I tried but I don't have the motivation.... (It's seriously hard and boring so I tend to put it off). I spend to much time on League of Legends and MC D:
That's why I want more people to know about this, the more that know the more motivation I can get and the faster I can get this done! Help me out! Use a sig! Please? :sad.gif:
Derp... Don't know how I didn't think of that lmao... Anyway thanks for your help and for supporting the Gumbi Zombies!
Guess I'll have to wait till I finish the update for other people to talk and stuff D:
That was really gruesome! But it getting even better if their body part flung around when you hit it with sharp weapon :biggrin.gif:
I wouldn't call that gruesome but it definitely will be when I'm finished! Although I don't think weapons will do that though. I probably could make it happen in UDK but with blender I think the best I could do would end up with you hitting someones arm and their leg falling off! I'm thinking about adding grapples so they could but other than that the zombies will remain relatively intact.
Yes. However the spawn zombies are rather weak and they are not meant to deal massive damage as getting health back isn't easy. The small bits of damage they deal will soon add up. So pretty much your not gonna die in one all out battle with zombies, they are gonna wither you down slowly... However if your looking to go down in an epic battle then the demons could help you out with that. They deal pretty heavy damage and knock you around heaps. The zombies will also be getting their way with you while this is happening! If you think that's not good enough then bosses and boss mobs can battle you to the death. Some of witch can take off around 90% of your health with 1 hit. If you want a single mistake to be fatal, fight them. The zombies get stronger anyway so IF you live long enough they may also deal quite a bit of damage.
As said above, you should add some blood. I also think darker walls and environment would better fit the theme.
Yeah I'm gonna add blood pretty soon but blood textures are a b***h to make so I'm kinda putting it off :S
Changing the lighting is one of the next things on my list. Haven't got around to it yet really.
Have you thought of offloading some modelling/texturing to the community. I myself can't model or texture beyond assembling a few boxes together in sketchup but I can convert sketchup to blender. Thats about it. I have a friend who is a very good sketchup modeller for objects. You could perhaps make a website (even webs would do) with what you want, show a screenshot of the best model you've been emailed so far and people could just have a look and go someones done a crowbar already but I bet I can make a better one, make a better one and email it to you. The website then gets updated to show the new one.
Just an idea.
hmm... Maybe but people wouldn't know how I need my models made (so they work in the game engine and with my physics system and so on)... I'll think about it. Next update will be out somewhere between now and next weekend!
EDIT: Go to the bottom of the first post and you can download an OLD game I made!
Thats fair enough I guess. It was just an idea to save some time
It's a good idea but I would have to do a bit of work on stuff to get it into the game engine anyway... I might actually use this for houses as they take awhile and I need heaps. Don't think people will do it though but we will see. I might set something up.
Do you mind if I use one of those zombies as my avatar?
I just love them so much. :laugh.gif:
lol go for it! :biggrin.gif:
That update I was talking about before might take longer as I have started working on a new lighting system. It looks awesome! It has great lighting (all of it can be broken!) witch includes flickering lights, holdable torches and more. It can get to pitch black darkness if there is no lights and it's night so your gonna need a torch! I'll try add screenshots of this tomorrow as I have to get them on my other computer (witch I'm not on much) because the one I have at home isn't good and with the new lighting it makes everything look crap and it lags like hell. I'll also make my videos on the other computer as everything will look 10x better! That pc may even have a way to record it without making it look crap!
Anyway I have a question, if it's pitch black and there's a zombie or demon with glowing red (or any colour) eyes.... Should you be able to see the eyes glow even in the dark?
I cant believe no ones asked about this game you've been working on for 2-3 years, id love to know the theme and such. also were this modled nicely i would donate for it, as for the modling from the community i can guarente that people would help {assuming you let the community have some control of how the game will turn out} good game add toggle blood feature and i leave!

I've only been working on the storyline for 2-3 years (just in case you didn't read that bit) because as you pointed out, my modeling isn't the greatest for humanoids (it's hard!). When I make this into a game I wanna have the skills to make it not only look awesome, but have incredible programing (I'm quit a bit off atm). It has a very intricate storyline that I have had trouble explaining with words many times before. You would really have to play the game and see how everything interacts with everything else to get a good idea of the characters and plot and so on. The plot is probably explainable but it would take me ages to write it down and it would be very hard to word right. Regardless I'm not gonna talk to much about it as if someone steals it (it's a pretty dam good storyline so I wouldn't be surprised) then I'm screwed. I'll tell you about the theme though. The game will have a very dark, grim, hopeless theme. A sense of impending doom will always be preset. You and all the main characters are pretty much fighting a battle they have already lost. It will probably be an fps with some aspects of this games gameplay. The storyline can do about 6 games I think and that's with 100 percent of the disk full on storymode alone! There will be another disk for multiplayer though.
Only suggestion I would have is: Don't separate items as either weapons or other items. Make it that all items would take inventory space and that you can attack/throw all items (well maybe not the really big ones).
I don't think that would work out very well gameplay wise (using a door as a weapon is gonna block 90 percent of your screen, you will have to drop everything you have to defend yourself if you wanted to build a barricade and so on). If I changed this I would have to change alot of the aspects of gameplay having a negative outcome on gameplay. Regardless I've already programed it this way and changing it will be way to much effort.
Some items have special abilities (like throwing it) so it is possible to throw weapons if that's what you wanted.
Thanks! I remember feeling like that and you just gotta keep at it.
The new lighting system is pretty much done but the only pc I use that can record or test it I only get on for about 5 hours a week so I was to busy to get screenshots but I'll take a video of it soonish so you get a good idea of it

I was wondering if you would like to have a chat/interview for my blog?
Privet message me or something?

I should have an update soon but it wont include all the new items/zombies. Just the next area. I will do more updates though!
Thanks! It's not linking for some reason though D:
